| Loves | Best of Beauty 2019 - Makeup

It's time of year again, time to reflect on all the amazing products the beauty industry has brought into our lives this past year. It's so hard to narrow it all down at the end of the year but it's also so much fun to reflect on what I really enjoyed and used this past year. Makeup is, of course, my favorite category and there are so many new launches to talk about, along with some long-standing favorites!

You can find a full list of the Best and Worst of 2019 for Tom Ford products here but you may see some repeats on this exist because they're so good!

PRIMERS

VDL Lumilayer Primer - This is the ultimate glowy primer! It gives such a fresh, healthy, and luminous glow to the skin! I took a tip from the Queen of Glow, Nam Vo, and I apply it over a face oil and I am GLOWING! I highly recommend trying this primer out if you love a good glow.

Victoria Beckham Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer - This is the most luxurious primer I have tried this year and it is well worth the price. Infused with Augustinus Bader skincare technology, this priming moisturizer not only primes the skin but nourishes and repairs it. It offers a beautiful soft glow that will suit any skin tone. You can learn more about this formula in my review here.

By Terry Glow Booster CC Serum - This glowing serum gives a pretty soft glow and helps smooth out texture and imperfections. This very light serum can also be beautifully mixed into any base product to add a glow. This illuminating serum also contains some skincare benefits to nourish and care for your skin as you wear makeup throughout the day.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Insta-Smooth Primer - This smoothing primer has a beautiful light texture and doesn't have the silicone-slip that is commonly associated with smoothing primers. It feels a lot like a gel moisturizer and it helps smooth and blurs out texture and imperfections. It feels very refreshing and hydrating on the skin, which is great for dry skin types.

Elemis Peptide-4 Adaptive Day Cream - Designed to be a priming moisturizer, this moisturizer helps smooth out the skin while hydrating it. It has the beautiful amazing texture and feel of a moisturizer but it creates this smoothing veil over the skin for makeup. I love this dual-purpose moisturizer because I'm often notoriously bad at remembering to use a primer. You can read my full review of this product here.

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Primer - This smoothing primer blurs imperfections and texture but doesn't have that silicone slippery texture or a drying finish to the skin. This primer offers the benefits of hyaluronic acid and skincare but also, helps really prepare the skin for makeup and helps the makeup grip to the skin! This primer really gives you a super filtered and flawless complexion and it also helps keep your skin hydrated throughout the day.

Glossier Futuredew Oil Serum Hybrid - I'm a huge fan of layering face oil and illuminating primers together to get a super intense glow and hydration, this product is everything I could have ever wanted! Instead of complicated my prep routine, it has simplified my complex prep routine into one glowing step! I love the texture, feel, and look of this serum on the skin. It gives you some seriously glossy, glossy, and glassy skin!

FOUNDATIONS

Guerlain L'Essentiel Natural 16hr Wear Foundation  - The glowiest foundation I have encountered in a while, this liquid foundation quickly became a fast favorite because of its longevity, coverage, and glowing finish. The large shade range puts it at the top of my list for a must-try foundation for 2019! This foundation has made it through some long day without powder and still manages to be perfectly glowy. This foundation does have a strong fragrance but it disappears quite quickly after application. You can learn all about it in my review here

Armani Crema Nuda Tinted Cream - The most expensive foundation I fell in love with this year, this tinted cream is packed with skincare and skin-nourishing properties. Although not ideal for dry skin, I have found a routine that really works for me and so this foundation has become my most used of the entire year. Read all about it and how it compares to other foundations of this caliber here.

Amani Power Fabric Balm Foundation - I still have to do a full review of this foundation but I did wear it for a good chunk of the year. This balmy full-coverage foundation adapts the base that you put underneath and so while I would normally avoid a foundation that claims to be matte, this foundation can be made dewy simply through a glowing prep routine, which I do daily. This foundation offers a ton of coverage but doesn't look heavy and it fuses with skin beautifully.

Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint - Not a foundation but still a favorite of the year. This super natural and sheer skin tint is perfect for those good skin days and no-makeup-makeup days. It creates a very fresh and healthy veil for the skin. It naturally enhances your complexion and it's best applied with your fingers. Learn more about this formula in my review here

Tom Ford Soleil Flawless Glow Foundation - This serum-like liquid foundation has a nice medium to full coverage but still remains very light and fresh. This foundation is a go-to on day when I don't have time to fuss with my base but I still want some coverage. This foundation gives a lovely fresh glow and lasts throughout the day. Read all about it my review here.

Dior Face & Body Waterproof Foundation - I bought this foundation for a friend's summer destination wedding, in which it was expected to be very hot and humid and it really is true to its name! It was waterproof and lasted me all throughout my beach summer vacation and through a long day of celebrating with friends. The lightweight texture feels amazing in the heat and the longevity of the foundation is incredible. The formula seems to adapt to whatever primer is underneath so, you can still achieve a glow.

CONCEALERS

NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer - I finished up the remaining tubes of this concealer. I would totally repurchase these concealers! They have a beautiful medium coverage with a natural finish. The shades have a beautiful brightening peachy tone that really makes you look fresh-faced and awake! Plus, they stay all day and they're super affordable.

Glossier Stretch Concealer - I was very late to the Glossier game but I finally jumped on the bandwagon and I must say, this is one of my favorite products. Creamy and pigmented, this concealer covers but doesn't crease or sink into lines. It really does stretch and flex with the skin to give it a very fresh appearance!

POWDERS

By Terry Tinted Hylauronic Hydra-Powder - I'm really not a powder person and for every day, I won't set my makeup with a powder but when I want to look incredibly flawless, I will use this amazing blurring, perfecting, and hydrating setting powder. This powder is incredibly lightweight and blends into the skin seamlessly but doesn't leave my skin looking dry, heavy, or cakey. My makeup is just perfectly set and my skin feels hydrated throughout the day. By far, one of the best powders I have ever tried. See my full review here for swatches and more information.

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Setting Powder - I bought this powder specifically for its super unique formulation. It's a waterproof powder! I don't know what kind of sorcery they used to accomplish this feat and I don't care because it is amazing! I bought it for my friend's summer destination wedding and I was flawless all day despite the heat and humidity! I had people asking me how I was able to keep my makeup on all day. I also did the bride's makeup (my friend) and even with her oily skin, her makeup remained flawless all day and night!

BLUSH

Hourglass Ghost Ambient Blush Palette - This quad of beautiful blush shades often graced my cheeks through the last months of the year. All the colors are so wearable and soft. The texture of these blushes are incredibly silky and the fuse into the skin seamlessly. They offer a soft glow but they don't emphasize texture or imperfections. You can find some of these shades in their permanent range and I highly recommend checking them out. See my review for swatches and more info.

Patrick Ta Monochromatic Moment Velvet Blush in She's Sincere - This neutral rosy-peach nude shade is the only blush tones I really wear most often these days. To see Patrick Ta come out with a collection of just nude tones made my heart jump for joy. This blush blends beautifully into the skin and leaves the perfect natural flush.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic in Pillow Talk - Making a come back into my favorites is impressive considering my enormous collection and this neutral rosy-tan shade is my go-to when I have no idea what blush to wear. It literally goes with any and every look I do. The coloring is so flattering and the pearl throughout it adds the perfect touch of glow. Plus, it has a very light center circle, which is teh perfect complimenting highlighter! It has everything I need on a daily basis. Check out my review for this versatile blush here.

Tom Ford Glow Sticks - When I need a glowing cheek, I can always rely on these blush and highlighter sticks! The formula is so emollient, pigmented, and glossy. I love that you can quickly get the perfect glowing cheek and they're so travel-friendly! I'm very happy to see them make a comeback in the winter 2019 collection again and I hope to see these again in the upcoming year. These are truly a cream blush staple! Check out my reviews for these here and here.

BRONZER

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel - I finally finished this giant jar of cream bronzer and I immediately bought a new one because I knew I couldn't be without it! This cream bronzer has a nice balm-like texture but isn't too sticky, emollient, or wet on the skin. It has the perfect creamy texture to blend into the skin and add a glow but doesn't make you look greasy and it lasts all day. For my medium skin tone, the shade is absolutely the perfect warm bronze.

By Terry Tinted Hylauronic Hydra-Powder - I've been loving these tinted powders not only for setting my makeup but I love the deeper shades for bronzing and sculpting my face! The tones of the deeper skin tone shades are perfect for achieving a very natural tan and adding a natural dimension into the face. Not to mention, it photographs beautifully and it blurs imperfection! Check out my review for more on how I use these.

Hourglass Ambient Luminous Bronze Light Bronzer - This glowing bronzer is always in and out of my daily rotation throughout the year. I use it on teh days when I want a really glowing finish to my skin. These bronzers have a soft glow and shimmer throughout them but they still look quite natural and fuse seamlessly into the skin.

Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick in Biscuit - I've been using this range for a bit at the end of last year and I haven't used some of the other products enough to form an opinion but this one, I love! The contour stick has the perfect cool and ashy tone that mimics a shadow on the skin without making you look dirty. The creamy texture is easy to blend but it stays on the skin very well throughout the day. I also love the luxurious packaging!

HIGHLIGHTER

Chanel Metal Peach Highlighter - I picked up this highlighter later on in the year but I haven't stopped using it since I bought it! It has this stunning creamy powder texture that blends into the skin seamlessly and leaves the most stunning beam of light on my cheekbones! It is really unlike any highlighter I have. You can't detect the individual particles but the glow is just eye-catching!

Rituel de Fille The Alchemist Highlight Intensifier - Probably for most of the first half of the year, this was the only highlighter I was using! This creamy, glossy, and sparkly cream is actually a highlighter topper but I love using ti alone most days for a very wet look to the cheeks. Of course, it looks amazing when it is intensifying another highlighter but I think the beauty of this product is in the way it reflects the light and gives off a super wet, glossy, and glassy skin look!

Melt Digital Dust Highlighter in Stargazer - This light champagne highlighter has a beautifully smooth texture that blends into the skin seamlessly and adding a glow without emphasizing texture. The color has just a hit of warmth but is fairly neutral overall and should suit most skin tones. I love the smooth shine and beam of light it leaves on your cheeks. It's my go-to for an everyday highlighter!

BROWS

Milk Kush Fiber Brow Gel - This brow gel was a repurchase for me this year because it has such a beautiful tone and adds the perfect amount of color to the brows! I can fill in my brows a bit for more definition but for day to day use, it gives me the perfect shape and color I need. It's just quick and easy to use and I highly recommend this brow formula.

Glossier Boy Brow - I was very late to the game with this product but now that I have it, I can see why everyone is always raving about it! The brush is the perfect little shape to separate, enhance, and shape the brows and the gel has the perfect tint to give definition and color without being too intense. I love the natural effect this brow gel has while being very defining!

EYESHADOW

Dior Wild Earth Eyeshadow Palettes - These summery palettes were such a joy to use and enjoy this year! The color combinations are so beautiful and the formula blends like a dream! All the shadow have a soft luminosity to them and they just look striking on the eyes. These palettes were staples all spring and summer! You can read my review for these here.

Pat McGrath MTHERSHP Eyeshadows - I don't why it took me so long to get a MTHERSHIP palette but I'm so glad I grabbed some this year! From the smaller quads to the Divine Rose Palette, Pat has an iconic and exceptional one-of-a-kind eyeshadow formula! I really didn't want to believe it because they're so pricey, but they are totally worth it! I hope we will see more wearable color combinations entering into this new year!

Natasha Denona Coral Palette - Striking extra-warm reddish tones and soft coral, this palette has some of the most unique combinations of shades. The pigmentation is ultra-rich and the formula is so easy to use! This eyeshadow palette is truly something different and special. You can use it year-round because the colors work so well for spring/summer but can also be transitioned into fall/winter. Check out the swatches for this rich and versatile palette here.

Natasha Denona Mini Nude Palette - This mini neutral palette has some beautiful warm tones that work for so many skin tones. I love taking these mini palettes with me traveling because they're so convenient. This palette has a lot of the matte neutral shades that I often wear on a daily basis, which is why it got so much love last year.

Roen Beauty Eyeshadow Palettes - This is probably the most unique and exciting formula of the year! These lustrous cream eyeshadows have the most unique glossy, sparkling, and balmy texture. They are between an eye gloss and a cream eyeshadow because they offer pigment but they also have a sheer glossy finish. These are a go-to for a quick everyday look. They give you a very polished look with very little effort. I love the clean ingredients and luxurious packaging. Learn more about this formula in my review here and here.

Givenchy Ombre Interdit Liquid Eyeshadows - These liquid eyeshadows wear like iron! I mean they really don't budge at all once they dry on the lids! They have a nice creamy texture and they have a beautiful metallic finish. These shadows are very versatile and can be worn alone, mixed together, layered, and paired with powder eyeshadow. You can read all about this liquid eyeshadow formula here in my review.

Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes in Platinum - I included the winter 2019 duos in my best and worst of Tom Ford Beauty post but I had to include the cream color in Platinum in my yearly faves too! This cream shadow is my go-to all throughout the year for a quick polished look. It is the most beautiful shade of taupe and has a very nice sheeny finish. I love wearing it alone but I will often use it as an eyeshadow base to add interest and depth to my looks.

EYELINER

Urban Decay 24hr Gilde On Pencil in Akaline - I had a real thing for beery toned eyes this year and I have been crushing on this Bordeaux colored eyeliner since I got it. It has an amazingly smooth and creamy texture and the color is so rich and sultry. I love pairing it with a more neutral eyeshadow or going all out with cranberry and berry eyeshadows!

Illamasqua Precision Gel Liner in Deviate - On the same berry track, this gel liner crept it's way to me late in the year but I keep turning to it to add a bit of spice to everyday natural looks. This deep berry/burgundy shade is so easy to wear because it has that subtle red-tone and adds just the perfect bit of interest to any look.

Givenchy Disturbia Felt Tip Eyeliner - This liquid eyeliner is amazing! The super-fine felt-tip is so easy to use and control. The pen flows beautifully and it allows you to easily swipe it across the lid. The color is a super inky matte black and it glides over sparkly eyeshadows with ease. I love the very fine point of the liner. It really helps get your wings really sharp and crisp!

MASCARA

Burberry Bold Lash Mascara - Burberry has been a brand that has kind of disappeared from the beauty scene lately, which is a shame because they have some really lovely products. I found this mascara unused in my stash and now I'm mad at myself for not pulling it out earlier! This mascara is awesome! It gives me volume, length, and separation. It gives me that kind of fluttery lash look that looks so pretty and natural for every day. It never smudges on me and it's easy to remove. An all-around winner and I'd definitely repurchase this one again!

Givenchy Volume Disturbia Mascara - This mascara has a plastic spikey wand that gives a lot of length and separation. I really love how long this mascara makes my lashes look and teh formula never looks clumpy. The color is super dark and a very inky black color. I did find that if I didn't powder my under eyes, this mascara can transfer but overall, I really enjoy using this mascara. It gave me a very pretty intensely long lash look!

FACE PALETTES

Natasha Denona Tan Palette - I don't think there could have been a more perfect face palette that came out this year. This palette has everything I used on a daily basis beautifully wrapped up in one convenient package. With two creamy highlighters of different finishes, a beaming powder highlighter, and a warm bronzer, it just screams GLOW! I could not get enough of this palette and found myself constantly reaching for it. Check out my full review here.

NARS Summer Lights & Hot Nights Face Palettes - These palettes served me very well throughout spring and summer. I took them on several trips and they contained everything I needed to get beautiful smokey eyes and glowing skin! They were my signature palettes through the warm months and I even used them on other people and they worked for every skin tone! These were truly some of my best buys from 2019. Check out my review for them here.

Tom Ford Illuminating Duo in Incandescent - This duo of a fresh and luminous pink and a glowing gold is so stunning and universally flattering! I love using this duo on the eyes and the cheeks for a quick and composed look. The pigmentation is stunning and the powder blends seamlessly into the skin. The formula is truly incredible and it's just become one of my go-to cheek colors. Head here to read my review and see the swatches.

Tom Ford Illuminating Duo in Moodlight - This is a product that constantly comes back into my routine throughout the year and I guess it's best classified as a highlighter but I really use it all over the cheeks. This duo has a beautiful rosy bronze color on one half, which I use to add luminosity and sculpt my cheeks and the lighter white gold shade, which I use as a subtle highlight on my cheekbones. I often still use a more intense highlighter just on the very top of my cheekbones for extra pop and glow!

LIPS

Tom Ford Gloss Luxe Lip Glosses - I had a real obsession with lip glosses this year and I think it was the release of these glosses that really triggered it. This formula really had me torn because the pigment does have a tendency to sit into line but the texture is so luxurious and divine! I love the super balmy, smooth, and luscious texture! It feels like a lip treatment and it makes my lips feel smooth and look so plump. I loved pairing these glosses with lip liners. Check out my full review here.

Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Luxe - These super pigmented liquid lip colors come in a shiny finish and a matte finish. I really loved both formulas and even ended up using them on the cheeks for a matching flush! These lip colors have beautiful long-lasting color and they're very comfortable on the lips. You can learn all about this formula here in my review.

Kaplan MD Lip Glosses - Again, this was the year for glosses. These minty and balmy glosses are smoothing, hydrating, and come in a wide range of beautiful shades. They vary from sheer and sparkling to glosses with more pigment. These glosses are so easy to wear and throw into my bag. I like pairing them with lip liners for a more pouty look.

Patrick Ta Precision Lip Crayon - This lip liner have a unique angled shape that is beautiful for lining and shading the lips. I bought the lightest shade to pair with my very sheer glosses and it looks so natural and beautiful. I love this long-lasting and creamy formula so much that I'm definitely considering picking up some of the deeper shades. Patrick Ta definitely knows how to do nude lips!

Caley Cosmetics Beach Babe Nude Lip Liner - This light brown shade works with virtually every lip gloss and nude lipstick I have! The formula glides on really nicely and this shade adds the perfect natural definition.

Make Up For Ever Lip Liners - They don't make this formula anymore, which is a shame because it is beautiful! However, it seems like they still have a lip liner formula that is also multi-purpose. I just love the nude shades that they offer and they just suit my nude lip colors so well.

Lisa Eldridge Lipsticks - This was the first year I have ever tried Lisa Eldridge's range of lipsticks and they're as beautiful as you would expect from the renowned makeup artist. These lipsticks have a creamy texture without being too emollient and melty on the lips. They're extremely pigmented and offer full color in one-stroke. They have a soft matte velvety finish and a beautiful range of shades. These are definitely worth buying again!

Dear Dahlia Intense Satin Lipsticks - These lipsticks have beautiful rich pigmentation and super creamy formula. These glide on effortlessly and leave a super-rich and saturated veil of color across the lips. It feels so creamy and moisturizing on the lips. The colors are just so universally flattering and the packaging of these lipsticks is dreamy! These have everything I want in a good lipstick - pretty color range, comfortable formula, and stunning packaging!

Dear Dahlia Dream Velvet Lip Mousse - This cute little package has the prettiest matte lip color I have ever used! This matte liquid lip color creates a super soft diffused lip look and it is beautiful when used to create an ombre lip! I love the super soft lived-in matte look because it makes the lip color so wearable. I definitely want to get more shades of this beautiful formula.

Dear Dahlia Aurora Lip Shine Treatment - This sheer gloss-lip treatment hybrid has a beautiful smooth texture with no stickiness at all. It feels very moisturizing without feeling greasy or oily on the lips. The reflect in these lip treatments is super fine and gives you a plush, full, and juicy lip look. I like pairing it with a nude liner for a very pouty and comfortable lip.

Patrick Ta Monochromatic Moment Silky Lip Creme in She's Independent - This particular shade is stunning for a medium/tan skin tone! I bought the lighter shade initially and it was waaay too light for me and it's because the formula is so pigmented. I ended up picking up this shade and loving both the color and formula! The formula is extremely long-wearing but very comfortable and creamy. It does transfer but because the pigmentation is rich, the color lasts.

SETTING SPRAY

Huda Resting Boss Face Waterproof Setting Spray - I'm not one to wear makeup hour on end but when it comes to special occasions, I want my makeup to budge-proof! When I went to my friend's destination wedding this past summer it was hot, humid, and I needed my makeup last all day long. This setting spray sealed in my makeup so well, I had people asking me how I was able to keep my full face on so well. It has a pretty strong floral scent, which isn't my favorite but the results are undeniable! My makeup looked as fresh as the minute I finished applying it for hours!
