Just when you feel like you didn't need another warm palette, Tom Ford is delivering you another warm palette! This monotone mid-tone warm palette will probably win over many hearts for its wearable color palette and flattering shades. The trend for this eyeshadow release seems to be wearable and staple shades, this palette checks all those boxes.

The Tom Ford De La Creme Eye Color Quad retails for $88.00 USD and is available at Sephora and other retailers. This eyeshadow quad is housed in the classic Tom Ford cognac and gold-trimmed compact. It's very lightweight, made of plastic, and has a sleek design. The palette is very slim and includes some applicators. The compact also has a large mirror, which is perfect for makeup application on the go.

SHADES

Tom Ford De La Creme Eye Color Quad

Golden Champagne - This shade is a light champagne with a strong golden shimmer. This pale gold shade doesn't shine too brightly on a medium skin tone but on a fair or deeper skin tone, the gold will be more dramatic.

Golden Amber - This warm light amber with an orange tone and strong gold shimmer is a very wearable take on an orange eyeshadow. The gold shimmer is so strong that your could consider this shade a duo-chrome eyeshadow. Again, on a medium warm skin tone, this eyeshadow is more subdued but on fair and deep skin tones, this shade will really pop.

Light Caramel - This warm caramel tan shade is perfect for a wide range of skin tones as a crease shade. It really helps define the crease but it also looks lovely as a simple all-over the lid shade.

Chocolate Brown - This chocolatey brown shade actually runs on the cooler side compared to the rest of the shades in the palette. It's a very rich shade that adds a lot of depth ad complexity to this very warm eyeshadow palette. It can smoke out the eyes but because it's not extremely deep, it doesn't get too dark and makes it wearable for everyone.

COMPARISON SWATCHES

There are three neutral palettes from Tom Ford that I felt had similar colors that I could compare this new palette to. Unfortunately, all three of these palettes are now discontinued and no longer available but you will be able to see how they compare.

De La Creme vs. Cocoa Mirage

If you haven't heard the very unfortunate news, Tom Ford is discontinuing Cocoa Mirage. Cocoa Mirage has three matte eyeshadow shades and leans much more neutral in tone than De La Creme. The only shadow that is extremely similar among the two palettes is the darkest shade but even these shadows differ. The darkest shade is Cocoa Mirage is actually warm-toned and the one in De La Creme is cool-toned.

De La Creme vs. Iris Bronze (full review here

The shadows in the Iris Bronze palette aren't really that close to the De La Creme. The closest shades are the two deepest shades and they're very different among the two palettes. In the Iris Bronze palette, you have a satin bronze shade with a very soft shimmer. While in the De La Creme palette, you have a matte warm caramel shade. The deepest shade in the Iris Bronze shade is actually extremely plummy compared to the chocolate shade in De La Creme.

De La Creme vs. Cognac Sable

Cognac Sable is a very old and long been discontinued quad but one that is highly coveted and one that many hope will reappear in the Tom Ford range again. This palette tone and shade-wise are the closest to De La Creme. The lightest shade in Cognac Sable us much more gold, the copper shade is a sparkly glitter as opposed to a soft shimmer amber, the bronze shade contains shimmer and is a bit deeper than the caramel from De La Creme, and finally, the deepest shade in both palettes runs cool but the Cognac Sable shade has a very clear purple undertone to it.

FORMULA

Matte Eyeshadows

The matte eyeshadows in the Tom Ford range have vastly improved from previous formulas. It is extremely apparent when swatching old palettes next to the new ones because you can really feel the difference in the texture. Not to mention, the new matte eyeshadow formula adheres and sits on the skin much more evenly and smoothly. They apply very evenly with very little product. The pigment is very buildable and the shadows blend out like a dream.

The matte eyeshadows can be easily layered to create a lot of dimension, depth, and definition. They're very soft but they don't cause fallout, especially if you're slowly building the color on the eyes. These shadows are very true to color and look very silky on the eyes. You can tell they just glide on the eyes and don't get patchy, even over textured skin.

Shimmer Eyeshadows

The shimmer eyeshadows in this palette have a very smooth and creamy texture. The shimmers are extremely fine and make these eyeshadows more of a soft pearl finish. The fine shimmers make this palette wearable for all ages because the shimmers don't emphasize texture. The soft shimmer is also ideal for everyday wear, offering a pretty soft glow but not looking too intense.

These eyeshadows blend out and blend into each other beautifully. They are a very soft formula, which means they do kick up a bit of product but I find they adhere very well to the skin without primer. I haven't had any issues with fallout but I do recommend picking up a little bit of product at a time. A little bit of product goes a long way because these eyeshadows are so pigmented. They are very buildable as well, starting off fairly pigmented already but building up to be more intense when layered.

THE LOOK

For this look, I took the Caramel shade into my crease and outer corner of my eyes. I used the Golden Amber shade all over the lid and the Gold Champagne shade in the inner corner. I placed just a touch of the Chocolate Brown on the outer corner of my lashline at an angle for a touch of natural definition.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Tom Ford De La Creme Eye Color Quad

This palette is a no-brainer palette that is easy to wear and easy to use for any makeup skill level. The warm tones are neutral enough to suit and flatter any skin tone. The soft texture and finish of the shadows make it easy to use. The finishes are flattering for people of any age to wear. This is one of my most used palettes because it is so easy to achieve a complex eye look with very little effort. The warm eyeshadows aren't the most unique eyeshadow out there. You can definitely find shades like these just about anywhere but it is nice to have all in one palette. This palette is great to use as a companion palette for other eyeshadow palettes or single eyeshadows. I would recommend this one for the quality, the beautiful shades, and the excellent formula. However, if you already have many shades like this palette, it's an easy pass. I don't think you're missing out on anything special when it comes to this palette.

  3. Mink Mirage vs. De la creme: if you can choose only one of them, which one would you choose? Thanks.

    1. Hi Emma! oh, boy.. that's a tough question because they're pretty different palettes. De La Creme is quite warm and Mink Mirage leans slightly cooler. This depends on whether you prefer warm or cooler tones. Personally, I think Mink Mirage is the one I would choose because it is so basic and versatile. All the shades in Mink Mirage can be used together or with other eyeshadows to create a look. However, the shades are all very basic and you can find shade like this from other brands for less. I like having them all in one palette for convenience. I hope this helps!
