| Review | Patrick Ta Major Sculpt Creme Contour & Powder Bronzer Duo

I have been waiting for this release! My can't live without makeup product has to be bronzer, it just does so much for the complexion and transforms the face. Patrick Ta knows how to create a stunning complexion and there's no doubt that he creates some amazing complexion products as well. I loved the Major Beauty Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duos, I have a full review here. This bronzer and contour duo has the same concept and I only have high hopes for this formula! There's also a beautiful brush designed for this duo, the Major Sculpt Contour Brush, and I had to get this too. This review is packed full of new goodies and I can't wait to tell you if they all live up to my high standards.

The Patrick Ta Major Sculpt Creme Contour & Powder Bronzer Duo retails for $38.00 USD and is available at Sephora. The reflective rose gold compact is beautiful but opens a bit awkwardly. The lid snaps close with the top wrapping around to the side, which makes it a bit tricky to open. The benefit of this packaging is that it travels well without opening up. The compact is made of plastic but it looks quite elegant and luxurious. The interior has a plastic covering over the cream to protect it from dust and powder. I really appreciate it when brands put an effort to separate the powder and cream products.

SHADES

These sculpting duos come in three colorways and are designed to suit a wide range of skin tones. The duos appear to be very versatile and unlike foundations, one bronzer shade can suit many skin tones. However, there may be people who don't find a shade compatible with their skin tone. I am always torn when purchasing bronzers blindly because some brands make their shades much deeper or lighter than they appear in the images. I settled on the medium colorway in the end.

She's Sculpted (cream contour) - This shade is a perfectly cool-toned ashy brown shade. It really mimics the look of a natural shadow and it blends in beautifully into a medium skin tone.

She's Sculpted (powder bronzer) - This shade is a soft golden tan shade with a very fine gold shimmer. The gold shimmer is extremely fine and isn't noticeable on the skin but it does offer a soft sheen to the skin.

FORMULA

I don't often contour daily anymore but I do love a good contour when I'm going for a full glam look. When I do contour, I always use a contour shade and blend it out with a bronzer. I find this technique yields the most natural look and smoothest transition. I want my contour to look natural so, this duo suits my makeup style perfectly.

What I do find interesting is the mixture of textures because usually, people like to stick to all powder or all cream because it typically offers the most natural look. I prefer to stick to one formula for all my products to prevent patchy application.

Cream

The cream has a balmy emollient texture that glides onto the skin effortlessly and has a nice light-medium pigment to it. This makes contouring easy and makes it look much more natural because the translucent pigment really fuses with the skin and mimics a shadow. It is also buildable if you want a more intense contour but this formula is fairly sheer, so it won't build up much.

The formula is very easy to blend and it takes very little effort to get a seamless blend. When you blend it, it becomes just slightly translucent on the skin and it looks really natural. The texture is very smooth and it applies very evenly. It doesn't set down but it doesn't feel tacky or sticky on the skin. It just leaves the skin with a slightly wet balmy texture.

Now, I don't have oily skin at all but I still find this formula doesn't last well on me. I get about 3-4 hours before I see noticeable fading. This contour is gone by the end of the day on me, which is a little disappointing. I love the natural look and tone of this cream contour but the wear time isn't great. This is to be expected though, with cream formulas, they just tend to not stick to the skin. My skin in particular likes to eat the Patrick Ta cheek products, both powder, and cream. I have tried different bases and primers underneath but I still can't get the wear to be extended beyond a couple hours.

Powder

The powder is soft and when you dip your brush into the powder, you pick up quite a bit of product. The powder is pigmented and buildable, which is something you want from a powder formula. I do find that the softness of this powder has a tendency to cling and clump up a bit on the skin but it can still be easily blended out. The blending is more difficult on a wet foundation or a base that hasn't been powdered.

The powder applies well over the cream contour but again because the powder is so fine and powdery, it has a tendency to cling, and blending takes more effort. Layering the bronzer over the contour doesn't extend the wear of either product. The tones of the two products play well and complement each other. The bronzer works well to add warmth and more dimension to contour cream.

I find the tone and finish of the powder bronzer to be softly radiant and beautiful on the skin. The biggest issue I have with this powder formula is that it doesn't wear well on my skin. For some reason, even though my skin isn't oily, my skin just eats this powder up. It starts fading within the hour and by three hours into the wear, it is almost unnoticeable. I have tried using this bronzer over various bases, primers, and powders but the results seems to be the same.

Brush

So, Patrick Ta applies both the cream and powder portions with the Major Sculpt Contour Brush, which retails for $35.00 USD and is available at Sephora. This brush is a dense angled fan brush that really allows you to both apply and blend the product very easily. It is the most unique and innovative bronzer/contour brush I have ever come across! The bristles are so incredibly soft and fluffy for a synthetic brush. The density is so perfect for application and blending. I like to apply the product on the dense shorter bristles and brush upwards to blend the product onto the cheeks. This brush both applies and blends the product at the same time, which is a time-saver but it's also not necessarily what you always want in a brush. Overall, the quality of the brush is exceptional and I highly recommend picking it up! It is wonderful for bronzer and cheek application. You can also use it to apply a ton of other products. This is a brush I want multiples of in my collection!

When it comes to applying the cream contour, this brush works really nicely for a very natural application. Since it both applies and blends at the same time, it is a very effortless application but I don't find this method to be as precise. I like to take a small brush or my fingers and swipe the product exactly where I want to contour and then blend the edges with the brush or any brush. This gives me the intensity where I want to sculpt but a blended look so, it looks like a natural contour. This product is going to give you a really subtle contour, which I think is beautiful.

This brush is also excellent for applying powder bronzer, as its density allows it to pack on color but the tapered bristles allow the powder to easily blend with a swiping motion. The shape really allows you to precisely apply and blend the powder on the face. I think the brush works so well for powder because the bristles are so soft and dense. They really smooth the product across the skin and ensure a very even blend.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I really want to like the Patrick Ta cheek products but for some reason, my skin just absorbs the product, both cream, and powder. This duo just doesn't last on my skin at all and will disappear within three hours or so. I have tried a variety of bases, primers, and powder underneath but I just can't get these products to last on my skin. Additionally, I'm not the biggest fan of mixing creams and powders. Like I stated, this cream and powder duo works together but it just isn't my preference for how I like to apply my makeup. I prefer to stick to all creams or all powders for the most part. I really love the colors and tones of these duos. I think they're so flattering and they look beautiful on the skin. They really do perform so well and have a lovely finish. I just wish they would last on my skin. Based on my experience, I don't feel confident in recommending this product but everyone's skin is different. There is a chance that these products will wear well on your skin.
