| Review | Tom Ford Desert Fox Eye Color Quad

I honestly don't know why I keep buying these because this neutral palette looks like a million of their other previously released palettes. Well, if you, like me, can't help picking up a neutral palette that looks like a million others that you own then this is the review for you. A quad of unsurprisingly warm natural tones, this palette joins the already extensive neutral Tom Ford range. So, is this palette worth it and how does it compare to previous palettes? Read on to find out!

The Tom Ford Desert Fox Eye Color Quad retails for $88.00 USD and is available at Nordstrom and other retailers. Housed in the iconic Tom Ford cognac compact with gold detailing, this quad fits into Tom Ford's permanent makeup range. These quads always include two dual-ended applicators and a faux-suede dust bag, all of which I never use. These sleek compacts have a nice magnetic closure and are made of lightweight plastic.

SHADES

This quad of neutral tones isn't the most unique combination of shades. I mean, at this point in the beauty industry, is there any neutral shade that hasn't been done a million times? Also, how many golds do we really need? Brands, even Tom Ford, seem to populate as many palettes as they can with some variation of gold. It's no different here with this palette.

Pale Peach Cream - This shade is a very pale peachy-toned cream shade. On a fair skin tone, the peach will be much more apparent. Even on my medium skin tone, I prefer using this shade as a transition or crease shade but on a deeper skin tone, this will be a highlight shade. This shade is completely matte with no reflective particles.

Rosy Terracotta  - This shade is a very rosy warm terracotta brown. It has quite a lot of rosy-orange warmth to it. This shade is also completely matte without any shimmer.

Warm Gold - This shade is a rich very warm golden shade with an orange undertone to it. I wouldn't consider it an amber but it does have a strong warmth and goldenrod shimmer throughout the shadow.

Rosy Brown - This shade is a medium chocolate brown with a strong rosy undertone. The rosiness in this chocolate shade makes it a more unique neutral shade and allows it to complement all the warm tones in this palette.

COMPARISON SWATCHES

This palette looks very similar to several existing quads - De La Creme (review here), Suspicion (review here), Leopard Sun (review here), Cocoa Mirage, Iris Bronze (review here). None of the previous palettes have a close to this new one; however, they're not too far off. Regardless, you can definitely find these shades in other brands.

FORMULA

The matte eyeshadows in this palette all have a creamy and blendable texture. These mattes have a nice soft texture but they don't feel dusty and they still adhere really well to the eyes. The pigment is rich and buildable for all these matte shades. They build very easily and apply evenly on the lids. I had no issues with eyeshadow fallout. Matte eyeshadows can be difficult to formulate and this palette is one of their better palettes that contain matte eyeshadows. Not all Tom Ford matte eyeshadows are created equally.

Honestly, while the quality of these matte eyeshadows is good and better than their previous eyeshadow formulas, they're only decent compared to so many other brands. For the price, this formula isn't particularly impressive. It is very lightweight and a little dusty but it does adhere well to the eyes. It also layers well but it isn't the most effortless or creamy formula.

The only shimmer eyeshadow in the palette is also very pigmented and has a creamy texture. This eyeshadow applied very vibrantly and true to the color in the pan. The fine shimmers are evenly distributed through the eyeshadow and apply evenly to the eyes. The shimmers create a soft reflect and don't look metallic and don't emphasize texture on the lids. It has a more pearly finish. A little bit of eyeshadow goes a long way and it blends beautifully into the other eyeshadows in the palette. This eyeshadow has a bit of a density to it and feels very creamy.

THE LOOK

For this look, I applied the Pale Peach Cream shade in my crease, blending upward toward the brow. Then, I applied the Rosy Terracotta into the crease, blending into the Pale Peach Cream. For more depth, I applied the Rosy Brown on the outer crease and corner of my eyes. I finished with the Warm Gold on the center to the inner corner of the eyes.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Here's the deal, this is a nice eyeshadow palette. I really like the quality of the eyeshadows and the way they apply. They have a good quality but this isn't anything superior to other brands or even superior to some of their own palettes previously released. While I do recommend this palette because the quality is really lovely, the colors are rich, and the colors make it a great standalone palette, it is not an incredibly unique formula or color combination.

I enjoy using this palette because these are shades I like using on a fairly regular basis and the formula is good but you can definitely find these shades elsewhere. I think if you're a really big fan of the Tom Ford palettes, this is a good one to own but really I don't think their palettes are worth the cost anymore. Every year, they come out with new palettes and they all seem to be very hit or miss in quality and they're not unique. For the ever-increasing prices, these just don't seem to be worth it anymore.
