| Review | Tom Ford Noir Fume Eye Color Quad
Smokey shadows are what I often associate with Tom Ford because it is very rare that his runway shows don't feature a deep and sultry smoke eye on the models. These colors immediately struck me as shades that speak to the brand's sultry style. It is also nice to see a more wearable smokey palette in this range for the everyday makeup wearer.
The Tom Ford Noir Fume Eye Color Quad retails for $88.00 USD and is available at Sephora and other retailers. Like all of the Tom Ford eye palettes, this one is housed in a sleek cognac and gold case with some little brush and sponge tip applicators. The compact is magnetic and is very lightweight but sturdy.
SHADES
Cream - This light matte cream shade is fairly neutral in tone and makes a beautiful browbone highlight or all over the lid shade to even out the color of the eyelid.
Kaki - This shade is the most unique and interesting shade in the palette. It is a mixture of a golden dirty kaki with a bronze and plummy brown undertone. This shade has a lot of complexity and works well as an all-over lid shade or a crease shade. When layered over other cream shadows, it can alter the tones and bring out more of the golden shimmer.
Deep Bronze - This deep plummy bronze shade has a bit of a reddish tone to it and even a very subtle green shimmer throughout it. It some complexity and when placed over cream eyeshadow, it appears a little more plummy bronze than in the pan. This shade is great for adding depth to a look or as a smokey lid shade.
Matte Eyeshadows
The matte eyeshadow formula is pigmented, creamy, and silky. These mattes have a bit of density to them, allowing them to adhere nicely to eyes, even without a primer. They're very creamy and silky on the eyes, blending out like a dream. These mattes apply very evenly and smoothly on the eyes. Thanks to their creamy texture, these shadows leave virtually no fallout
Shimmer Eyeshadows
Both of the shimmer shadows included in this palette have a very fine shimmer and when applied over the Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes, which are metallic cream shadows, they become metallic. These shadows will definitely adapt to the base you apply them on and their subtle reflects can be manipulated by the base you use underneath. The shadows are very smooth, pigmented, and have a creamy texture. They adhere very well to the eyes and they don't' fallout during the application or throughout the day. Additionally, this fine shimmer texture ensures that the shadows don't emphasize texture on or around the eyes.
THE LOOK
I have two looks here, one I created with the shadows alone and one I applied over the Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Platinum. It slightly changes the look and the nuances in the eyeshadows.
For the first look without the cream shadow, I applied the Kaki shade all over the lid and up to the crease. Then I used the Deep Bronze to deepen the outer corner and the Dark Brown as a liner. Finally, the Cream shade is my browbone highlighter.
For this second look, I took the Platinum Cream eyeshadow all over the lid up to the crease. I used the Kaki shade to blend out the crease, the Deep Bronze in the outer corner, and the Dark Brown to deepen the outer corner and a bit at the outer lashline. The Cream shade is my brow bone highlighter to finish.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Of the eyeshadow quads released in early 2020, I think this one is the one I would recommend. While the shades aren't the most unique, they do have some complexity and it is fairly unique when it comes to the Tom Ford range and many makeup collections. I found that I didn't have eyeshadows that were similar to the two shimmer shades in this palette, making this palette the most worthwhile of the new releases for me.
I love that the shades are smokey but very wearable and easy to use. Even a novice at eye makeup application can achieve a very pretty smokey eye using these shades and the shades can even be used more subtly. The subtle kaki shade adds a lot of interest to these neutral tones and it still pairs well with any outfit or styling. While there is a kaki shade, it is very neutral and great for those who are concerned about wearing colors. The nuances in these natural shades add a lot of complexity to the overall look. I highly recommend this quad and I know it will work for a huge range of skin tones. It is by far the most unique and interesting eyeshadow quads of the new releases.
