| Review | Augustinus Bader The Cream and The Rich Cream

This moisturizer is the most raved about and hyped up skincare product I have seen in a very long time. It seems to be everywhere, from every other Instagram post to celebrity makeup bags, this moisturizer has a GLOWING reputation! When a product is this hyped up, I tend to be very wary and I become very resistant to the idea of purchasing it because I am convinced it is all hype. There is such a thing as mob mentality and I don't like being a part of the raving mob if the product isn't truly worth it. Especially, when you're talking about high price tag items like this moisturizer.

However, after trying a sample of The Rich Cream, I instantly fell in love, became obsessed, and ran out to go get the full size! Yes, I have joined the Augustinus Bader cult following and let me just say, it's worth the hype!

THE BEHIND THE BRAND

Before we go into these world-famous miracle creams, let's look into the history of the brand and the founder, Professor Augustinus Bader. Professor Bader is a world-renowned stell cell scientist who discovered a medical treatment activates the body's innate regenerative process. Using all his knowledge and experience of cell regeneration, he developed this innovative skincare technology.

This stem cell technology that he developed works with the body's own skin cells, activating the cells, boosting them, and committing them to generate teh correct healed tissue. He calls this healing process, the ABC method for Activate, Boost, and Commit. It is a method that has clinical applications in the medical field and it has demonstrated success, as it has in his skincare technology.

Augustine Bader and his skincare technology are both very interesting and I highly recommend you read more about everything here.

PRICE & PACKAGING

The Augustinus Bader The Cream and The Rich Cream retails for $85 for 15ml, $170 for 30ml, $265 for 50ml and is available at Augustinus BaderNordstrom and other retailers. I have only ever seen the 15ml available on the Augustinus Bader website. I own the 50ml bottles, which are made of fairly heft plastic in the iconic Augustinus blue with copper detailing and logo. The bottle feels substantial and luxurious in your hands. The cap is magnetic, making the packaging feel even more luxurious every time you use it. The cream is dispensed through a pump, which helps dispense the appropriate amount of product. I like pump packaging but with a product that is so expensive, I almost wish this cream was in a jar or tube, so I can scrape every last bit of product out of it. The creams also come with a little drawstring fabric pouch to store your cream in, similar to the pouches that come with luxury makeup. It's a nice touch but I find it a bit excessive and unnecessary, as I never use the little pouches that come with my luxury palettes.

TEXTURE

The Cream

This is the original version of the raved about miracle cream. I typically use two pumps for my entire face and neck. It has a super lightweight lotion texture that melts into the skin and leaves the skin feel very moisturized. The moisturized feeling is almost like there's a bit of oil infused into the cream but it isn't a greasy texture at all. For my dry skin, I noticed that initially I sometimes feel like there isn't enough hydration but as a couple minutes go by and it starts to sink into the skin, my face feels very well hydrated, like I used something with a thick emollient texture. The amazing thing is that it still feels so light and invisible on the skin!

The other thing I immediately noticed after I applied the cream is that it makes my complexion look fresh, luminous, and smooth! However, it doesn't feel like the cream is full of filler ingredients, like silicone. Silicone is a notorious culprit in skincare that creates the illusion of softer, smoother, and fresh skin but in actuality, your skin hasn't changed. This cream actual transforms your skin and makes it glowing, smooth, and fresh! This effect immediately after application and it looks so good, I don't even want to apply makeup! It's like a real-life filter and gives you that "expensive skin" look. Well, it actually is expensive, which means it's really doing its job!

I usually always use this cream in the evening because I like to give it time to work its magic overnight. In the morning, I find my skin feels insanely hydrated as if I used a facial oil! In addition to the glowing and smoothing effect, I notice my skin feels and looks very plump and youthful. My skin is also significantly softer than it did before I applied the cream and every time after it seems to be getting softer and more supple! This cream really is cell regenerating because I can see a huge difference in the fine lines, texture, and overall luminosity of my skin!

I don't use the term "glass skin" very lightly because I find that it is often overused to be mean dewy but this cream actually gives you a real glass skin look! It's not only dewy but it has the effect of a lot of laborious skin prep and treatments. The beautiful part is that it's just one cream! You don't have to layer product, mask, or get a facial but it looks like you did all of that and more!

This is the first skincare product that has ever made me want to go out bare-faced because my skin looks so good! With this cream on, I feel like a new person! My skin just looks perfect and glowing like I just came back from a facial. I have never felt so good about foregoing makeup but with this cream, my skin just looks naturally perfect!

This cream is great for all skin types. I am a normal to dry skin type, leaning towards the drier side and this cream works beautifully on me. I think if you are oily, this cream will be perfect for you and provide you with enough hydration without causing excess oil or adding a greasy texture to the skin. For drier skin types, I would use it during the day to help nourish and treat your skin. It really adds a fresh luminosity to the skin and smooths out any texture on the skin. Also, if you have a tendency to get clogged pores or develop milia, this is also the best version for you because it is light enough that it won't cause problems but still extremely nourishing.

The Rich Cream

This is the one that started it all. I received a small sample of this cream and I had a lot of doubts that it was going to be worth the money. Again, I thought that it was all hype but when I first applied it, the rich and creamy texture immediately won me over!

Like The Cream, I use two pumps to cover my entire face and neck. The texture of The Rich Cream still has a lotion texture but it feels balmy with a very rich emollient texture. It feels like an oil-infused balm on the skin. It's instantly hydrating with only a slightly thicker texture than the original version but it still doesn't feel uncomfortably heavy or greasy, just rich, hence the name. It blends into the skin really well with a light oil finish on the skin. Unlike with The Cream, with this version on, I don't feel the need to layer any additional product over or underneath. Usually, I would layer several skincare products including a hydrating mist or toner or essence, then a serum or two, and then finally a moisturizer. Sometimes I even layer on a facial oil for extra hydration! I don't ever want to layer products because this cream works so well on its own and I want to maximize its magical effect on my skin! It really has the perfect hydrating formula for dry skin and it works well for day or night.

Once applied, you will initially feel extremely hydrated and your skin will look glowing as if you use a very lightweight oil. I don't want to repeat myself but like The Cream, this one smooths, softens, and illuminates my skin like a real-life filter! It does basically all the amazing perfecting glass-skin goodness that the original cream offers but this one is just more hydrating. As a result of that additional hydration, there is touch more glow but again, no greasiness at all.

I use often this cream in the evenings and when I wake up my skin is so hydrated, smooth, and youthful-looking! My skin looks very plump and fresh with more elasticity than before. It is just beaming with an all-over healthy glow. Also, my skin just feels so insanely soft! It's really unbelievable until you experience it yourself! I have heard of some people complaining about milia forming as a result of this rich formula, however, I haven't experienced this and I am very prone to milia.

FORMULA

Taking a look at the ingredients list of these creams, they are surprisingly short and fairly simple for how scientifically complex these creams are.

The ingredients list for The Cream:

Aqua (Water), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Pentylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Phosphatidylcholine, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butylene Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Panthenol, Sodium Carbomer, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Retinyl Palmitate, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Squalane, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Lecithin, Alcohol, Carbomer, Ceramide NP, TFC-8, Sodium Benzoate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein, Superoxide Dismutase, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Dextran, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8, Ascorbic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Dextran Sulfate

The ingredients list for The Rich Cream:

Aqua (Water), Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Pentylene Glycol, Squalane, Octyldodecanol, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Tribehenin, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Sorbitan Oleate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Sorbitol, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, TFC-8, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Magnesium Sulfate, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Lactic Acid, Lanolin Alcohol, Zinc PCA, Dextran, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8, Citric Acid

These creams have no fragrance, which is ideal for all skin types but particularly, sensitive skin types. It is recommended to use this cream consecutively for 27 days, which is the rate at which skin cells turnover. I will tell you that you don't need to use it for that long to actually see results. I saw an immediate improvement in my skin overnight! The results only get better after regular use, which can be pricey so, I do use this cream intermittently. Even so, I have seen tremendous improvement in my skin!

What I would like to point out about the ingredient in these two creams is the lack of filler ingredients, like silicone. While silicone isn't bad for the skin, it does mislead you into believing that the skincare product is improving your skin by creating a smooth texture and blurring imperfections but without actually changing the skin.

Another ingredient that will stand out for many people is the used of alcohol in The Cream. Alcohol is not a bad ingredient! It has a bad reputation and yes, in high quantities it can be drying to the skin but in most cases, it will not harm the skin. The Cream isn't drying at all on my dry skin type! In fact, I find it very nourishing and hydrating! I don't think there is anything wrong with a product containing alcohol, as long as it isn't the majority of the formula.

The last luxury cream that came out that had a hyped-up cult following, and still does, was the La Mer Creme de la Mer but when you look into the ingredients list, you will find a huge amount of petrolatum and mineral oil, which basically makes it as good as a tub of vaseline is for your skin! I'm exaggerating a bit but that is the truth. Many luxury brands make outrageous claims about healing and regenerating the skin, yet they don't include any ingredient that will actually do so. The Augustinus Bader one is one-of-kind in their real-results formula!

The Augustinus Bader creams contain a patented proprietary complex that regenerates the skin, which is what makes these creams so special and so expensive. I don't want to paraphrase the information, so I'll leave this snippet from the website here to explain what this complex does:
Patented Technology
Everything the body does is the result of its innate communication processes. As we age, these communications change and certain signals become less frequent, or stop completely.
Inspired by Professor Bader's technology, the key to both creams' transformative properties is TFC8®, our proprietary Trigger Factor Complex. TFC8® comprises natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesised molecules naturally found in skin. It guides key nutrients and powerful natural ingredients to the skin cells, creating an optimal environment for the body's innate processes of repair and renewal. Everything your body needs, it already knows.
The body's stem cells act as a repairing force, mobilising the body's own biological wisdom to regenerate and heal. The stem cells found in skin lie dormant, awaiting an activation signal to repair the damage inflicted by life and environmental factors.
Augustinus Bader's Precise Personalised Cosmetic range treats people as individuals, harnessing the power and wisdom of each human body.
After using these creams, I am a firm believer in this technology and the visible results it delivers! The formula of these creams is truly incredible and innovative. These creams are changing the beauty industry and I really believe other companies will need to step up their game in order to compete with these formulas.

Another few important things to note about this formula is that this formula has never been tested on animals and it is safe to use during pregnancy!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I can't recommend these creams enough! I think it says it all when you finish a sample of a product and you immediately order the product! I can't remember the last time I actually did that! Despite the extremely hefty price tag on these creams, I believe that they are WORTH EVERY DOLLAR AND CENT! I am absolutely OBSESSED with this cream and it will FOREVER be a staple in my collection. I have tried a lot of skincare product and I truly believe that everyone can benefit from these creams. There really is nothing like these on the market! They are truly revolutionary and life-changing.

Obviously, the biggest point of hesitation in these products is the price but urge you to not hesitate on purchasing these creams. I wish I had jumped on this bandwagon sooner because it really delivers visible results! It's not easy to justify the price of these creams but when you see the results for yourself, you will agree that these are unlike any skincare product in existence and you will understand why the price is so high. It is also the lack of filler ingredients, the premium ingredients, and the proprietary complex included that brings the price to high. If you think about it, it took many years of scientific research to develop a cream that can deliver real results like this.

If you have ever been curious about these creams, I would click "add to cart" immediately! Do not wait and do not hesitate! You will thank me! However, I understand it is a very big investment. If you want to trial the product, I recommend ordering the smallest size or try to track down a nearby retailer for one but it seems retailers that actually stock this product in-store are very limited.

I would give up my whole skincare collection for a lifetime supply of these creams! *insert jaw drop* I have NEVER said this statement before so, you know I'm very serious when I say this. If that statement doesn't get you to run out and try these creams, then you must teach me the ways of self-control. No, but really give it a try - for your skin or science...or whatever, just go try it!

  2. Nice write-up. I think I will give it a try. The issue with alcohol as an ingredient: Indeed alcohol is drying but that is not the sole reason to try avoiding it. As explained to me by a skincare developer, alcohol causes premature aging. Your skin recognizes it as a toxin and actively works to "fight" it the moment you put it on. This puts stress on the skin overtime because it's overtaxed. It's often included as an ingredient because it helps with "plumping". That's actually a little swelling as your skin tries to defend itself. If you want to maintain healthy young skin in the long run, keep away from alcohol, or at least make sure it's far far down on the list of ingredients.
