| Review | Tom Ford Iris Bronze Eye Color Quad

Meet the latest release from the mind of Mr. Ford, a neutral shadow palette! Do we need more neutral shadow palettes? No, but do we want them? Yes! Trust me, you'll want this one!

The Tom Ford Iris Bronze Eye and Lip Set retails for $87.00 USD and is available exclusively at Nordstrom for their Anniversary Sale. Every year, Nordstrom host a huge anniversary sale with exclusive beauty sets from various brands. This year, Tom Ford created a beautiful neutral palette with two mini lipsticks included in the set. Making it an exceptional deal! You pay for the quad and get the lipsticks essentially as "gift". Whether or not this quad will eventually go to market individually and to other retailers, I don't know. These anniversary exclusives are often exclusive to Nordstrom and aren't often released again. I would get my hands on a set A.S.A.P., if you can!

SHADES

Initially this quad stuck me as looking quite similar to the Cocoa Mirage, but upon closer inspection it is much warmer and more bronze, as the name implies. HOWEVER, I found an even more exact and interesting dupe for all these shades in the Tom Ford line! Keep reading to find out more. The quad includes 2 satin shades, 1 metallic, and 1 matte shade. There's no glitter shade in this palette! This makes it much more wearable for anyone and for any occasion. The shades included are:

Peach (Satin) - This soft peach-champagne shade has a very soft sheen and a creamy texture. It does apply on the sheerer side however, you can build up the color. It's a really stunning inner corner, lid, or highlighter shade for any skin tone because the peach tone is very universally flattering.

Gold (metallic) - This soft gold shade is GORGEOUS! It has a metallic finish and it has the best texture of the four shades in the palette! It is extremely smooth, creamy, and pigmented. It gives this amazing glow to the eyes! Just pop it in the center of your eyes and the way it reflects the light is so stunning! Like I said, it's not a shimmer shade but more of a metallic shade so it will look flattering on any age!

Iris Bronze (Satin) - This satin shade is a beautiful warm amber-bronze color that has the perfect amount of warmth for this look. It has a touch of shimmer but it's over whelming or what I would consider shimmery. It still works really well in the crease as a transition/crease shade.

Burgundy Brown (Matte) - This shade isn't completely matte, it does have some little bits of micro-shimmer in it but it's not very apparent when applied on the eyes. The shade is a warm burgundy-brown shade that compliments all the other colors so well. It adds a lot of depth to the overall look and is quite pigmented. This is the driest texture of all the colors, so if you swatch it, it will not swatch as well as it applies with a brush. However, I have not had issues with building up the color or with fallout.

COCOA MIRAGE VS. IRIS BRONZE

Besides both of them not containing a glitter shade, these two palettes are quite different. While Cocoa Mirage leans the most neutral, almost cool, Iris Bronze is clearly a warm quad. Iris Bronze also doesn't contain a true matte, the deepest shade still has micro-shimmer in it.

REAL DUPES FROM TOM FORD!! WHAT?!!

After using these shades for a day, it struck me like a lightning bolt...these shades are awfully similar to the Tom Ford Private Blend Single Eyeshadows (full review here) I own, one of the being named "Iris Bronze"! These shades are IDENTICAL to the single shadows I own! This is the problem with owning almost everything from the brand. This seems to be the year Tom Ford is re-washing previous releases to create "new" products. The most of the summer collection could be duped by existing products! However, if you don't already own these shades this is an amazing value! As I said in my Private Blend Shadow Review, the quads contain about double the amount of product the singles do and for a much more reasonable price than buying 4 single shadows!

Here are the swatches:

As you can see the The Peach Shade is actually sheerer than Exposure (single) but they are quite close. I believe the actual shade for this Peach Shade, which I don't own, is Hush. I think either will work because the formula is so sheer. The Gold shade is practically identical to Body Double (single)! The Bronze shade is very close but it appear that the Iris Bronze (single) is a bit lighter. The Burgundy Brown shade is just barely warmer than Videotape (single) but they are very close. On the eyes you wouldn't really be able to tell and they have the same drier texture and multi-colored shimmer. Overall, the texture of the quad is better than the singles.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Despite this being identical to my single shadows, I am so IN LOVE with this palette! I think it has amazing pigmentation, the textures are easy to work with, and the colors are all cohesive and very wearable! There hasn't been a quad this universal for all skin tones since Cocoa Mirage and I feel Tom Ford really nailed another universal quad here! I am begging the people at Tom Ford to PLEASE...PLEASE... PUT THIS IN YOUR PERMANENT RANGE! It is so good! If you haven't already, you need to run and grab this set from Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale! It was literally flying of the shelves when I got to the store the first day and I can understand why. Not only is it a great value, it is a great quad! I only wish the shades were more original but I'm not disappointed that I bought one, the value is so great and the quality is excellent!  The quality is exceptional and I 'm so happy to see more quads without the glitter shade included, because it's honestly isn't for everyone. This quad is actually designed for all skin tones and ages. I can't say enough great things about it and it is 100% worth the price!

The additional lipstick minis don't hurt either! Casablanca is a classic mauve shade and the Spiced Honey is a beautiful light pink nude shade. If you find it too light, I recommend mixing the two shades. They both compliment that palette very well and they are a great bonus in this kit!

  1. I’d heard from an SA that the quad was the 4 top selling singles, although I’d heard the peach was hush, not exposure.

The texture does look a bit better than the singles

    1. Yes, the peach shade is Hush. I did add that into my review. The texture is definitely better but Hush and Exposure don't have a great formula in general. They tend to be quite dusty compared to the other formulas.

    1. I think the shades are not as red, as the vintage vamp palette. This palette is a true golden bronze look. It's extremely flattering on most skin tones.
