| Review | Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Glow Stick in Sunstruck

Finally, it's good to see a new product come from the great mind of Tom Ford! Don't get me wrong, I love the Exotica Flora Sheer Cheek Duo (review here) and the Soleil Contouring Palettes (review here) but we've seen it, we own it, and we still seem to keep seeing the same thing again and again. I was very disappointed to see the same shades being released this spring/summer 2018 but I am very excited for the few new additions, like this Glow Stick.

The Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Glow Stick in Sunstruck retails for $55.00 USD for 10g and is available at Neiman Marcus, Beautylish, and other retailers. This cream stick duo is something Tom Ford has never brought out yet and being a huge fan of his cream formulas, I knew I had to have this one! This dual-ended product twists up a cream blush on one end and a cream highlighter on the other. I have been using makeup in stick form a lot lately because it is so convenient and easy to get a quick and polished look! So I was happy to welcome another stick product into my collection. I also love my Shade and Illuminate Cheek products (full review here) but they aren't very convenient being in a compact and they are difficult to use on the go. You'd have to use your fingers or carry a brush with you and that just isn't practical, which is why I'm so excited to see them release this product in stick form! Additionally, The Glow Stick is a great deal because you get 10g for $55.00 whereas, the Shade and Illuminate Cheek Palette is 14g for $80!

Swatches were done with one swipe!

BLUSH - The blush shade is a coral-pink and on the skin, it leans quite peach. It is very pigmented, more so than the classic Shade and Illuminate formula. You can swipe or dot this product on and it is best blended with your fingers but a small duo-fiber stippling brush or a dense buffing brush also works well if you use a stippling motion to blend. It is emollient but still has a great lasting power, lasting on my skin for 8+ hours without touch up!

HIGHLIGHTER - The highlighter is a champagne-bronze shimmer that is on the sheer side but it is much more pigmented than the classic Shade and Illuminate formula. This highlighter provides a very glossy and glistening wet look. I swipe this on the high point of my face and blend with my fingers or with dense brush in a stippling motion.

I have been a long time fan of Tom Ford's cream formulations and this product is another superior cream product in the line. I love the stick form because it is so easy to use, its quick, and great for travel and touch-ups! The shades are perfect for spring and summer and I find the lasting power to be excellent. Like I stated previously, I found these products to last beyond 8 hours of wear! The formula is not nearly as emollient as the original Shade and Illuminate formula, which makes it versatile for many skin types. The glossy finish is beautifully but not sticky, which makes it pleasant for long wear. The pigmentation was very impressive, much better than the classic formula which is much more sheer and glossy. The highlighter may look dark in the stick however, it offers a very beautiful sheer and fresh glow to all skin tones. I love the blendable and skin-like formula. I hope to see more of this product in the future over the Shade and Illuminate Cheeks in the palette form because this form is much more convenient! Of all the spring/summer 2018 releases, this product is on top of the list! I highly recommend purchasing this product, especially over the Sheer Cheek Duo and the Soleil Contouring Palette.

Here are some swatch comparisons of the Shade and Illuminate Glow Stick in Sunstruck vs. the Shade and Illuminate Cheek in Scintillate vs. Cream Cheek Color in Paradiso.

Swatches from left to right - Scintillate Highlighter, Sunstruck Highlighter, Sunstruck Blush. Scintillate Blush, and Paradiso Blush

Swatches from left to right - Scintillate Highlighter, Sunstruck Highlighter, Sunstruck Blush. Scintillate Blush, and Paradiso Blush

As you can see, the the Sunstruck Glow stick is much more pigmented than the Scintillate Duo. I had to layer the Scintillate shades several times to create more intensity. While the Sunstruck Highlighter looks very similar to the Scintillate in this image, it is actually more bronze and less golden than the Scintillate but they are both quite glossy. The blushes have the same peach tone but the Sunstruck is much more pigmented and warmer, also it is more coral than peach. The Parasdiso blush is quite different on the skin than in the pan. In the pan, Paradiso appears much warmer and more coral but on the skin it is clearly a warm pink with gold shimmer. Still one of my favorite products but not even close to Sunstruck.

I am very pleased to see that Sunstruck is something new and unique to the Tom Ford range! It is a beautiful addition to the range and a great addition for anyone's collection! The pigmentation is strong, allowing it to span multiple skin tones and the consistency is creamy and beautiful! I had recently spent my weekend very sick and my complexion was looking far from healthy but after applying some of this product, it brought life back into my face! I looked so fresh-faced and glowing! I highly recommend this product if you are itching to get something from the Tom Ford summer 2018 collection, this is a must-have!

  1. oh this looks so lovely and convenient! Thank you for being the only person on the internet to say how much product you're actually getting. Do you happen to know the ingredient list for the glow stick? That's another piece of info I can't seem to find anywhere and my skin is unfortunately sensitive to the strangest things..

    1. Hi Audrey! It really is and I adore the stick form! It really has become my go-to. I wish I had taken a picture of the packaging to show the ingredients listed and unfortunately I think I may have thrown it away already. I'm so sorry! It can be very frustrating that Tom Ford and it's retailers don't have an ingredients list. If I can find the ingredients lists, I will definitely update this post! Thank you so much for reading!

  2. Well I've done it, Ive ordered it, like I said I would after reading this fantastic review. I am really looking forward to it coming now. Even better still is, alot of the department stores here in England are having 10% off, as we are having a bank holiday this monday. So I got it for £37.80 instead of £42.00. It kind of reminds me of mac virgin isle cream colour base, and I loved that. But it dried up to quickly.
