Review: Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Creme

At the beginning of this month I received an incredible package from Influenster and Kat Von D beauty, full of Kat Von D's latest complexion products for testing purposes.

I received two shades of the new Lock-It Concealer Cremes in Medium 17(described as a medium taupe with warm undertone) and Light 9(describes as a light parchment with neutral undertone). These are available at Sephora and retail for $26.00 USD. These are both too light for me to use on any blemishes but they work perfectly for my under eyes. The shade range is quite good for those who are very very fair (they have a white concealer) to those to who are fairly deep skinned. However, I feel that women of color who are deeper will not have a shade match, at least not blemishes. The deepest shade will work for most women of color as an under eye concealer.

The concealer is packaged in a sturdy clear plastic tube with a doe foot applicator. This a pretty standard style of packaging for concealers. The design on the tube plays very well with the Kat Von D style, very cool and rock 'n' roll.

This concealer is described on the Sephora website as:

Lock-It Concealer Crème does everything a traditional concealer does, and then some: it brightens the undereye area, covers blemishes, corrects discoloration, contours, and bakes. This next level formula applies smoothly and blends easily for a locked-down, smooth, even finish. With a wide array of shades, Lock-It Concealer Crème offers one of the most extensive shade ranges in concealer. Select the perfect under eye corrector and exact skintone concealing shade with easy-to-navigate names that feature the undertone. The shade range even includes a pure white, White Out, for dramatic highlighting and mixing into other shades to create custom tones.
Loaded with complexion-brightening pigments and ultra-nourishing Hydra-Boost Complex™, this formula is crease-proof and hydrating—ideal for the delicate under eye area. The artistry applicator was modeled after an artist's paintbrush, with a tapered tip for precise corners and a wide base to efficiently coat larger areas.

I find the formula to be very full coverage. It will definitely cover any blemishes or discoloration with very little product. Although it is full coverage, it is not incredibly heavy. For someone who prefers something very light, like myself, it is a bit heavy. I often only use the YSL touche eclat under my eyes which is very sheer, in comparison. I do like that it does not feel cakey or dry under my eyes. It also doesn't emphasize any lines, if used sparingly. I would not describe this formula as emollient but it is blendable and leaves a very smooth finish. It is very very long wearing! I took it with me on a hot summer trip to the desert and it lasted through the brutal summer heat.

This is how I like to use this concealer:
I like it as a concealer/highlighter since the shades I received were quite light. I place the concealer under my eyes in a triangle shape, several dots on my nose, a dot on my forehead, cupid's bow, and chin. Then I blend it out using the Lock-It Concealer Brush (Review here.) and finally setting it with the Lock-It Setting Powder (Review here,) with the Lock-It Setting Powder Brush (Review here.)

Overall, for the price its an excellent long-wear concealer! I personally prefer something lighter for my under eyes but I am also fortunate enough not to have very dark discoloration. If you can find a shade match it is very creamy and will cover just about anything, without getting to heavy. I really like it for covering redness around my nose because most concealers don't last around there or don't cover it very well. I don't own many Kat Von D products, aside from their liquid lipsticks but so far I am very pleased with all the products that I have tried.

Have you tried these concealers? What do you think about them? Also, let me know your favorite Kat Von D products!
