Review: Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder

At the beginning of this month I received an incredible package from Influenster and Kat Von D beauty, full of Kat Von D's latest complexion products for testing purposes.

The Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder is available at Sephora and retails for $30.00 USD for .67oz. It is packaged in a standard plastic tub container with a black twist-off cap with the large Kat Von D logo on it. The sifter in the shape of Kat's iconic star, that is on most of her packaging. The container is large and sturdy without being absurdly large.  I took it with me on my trip because I wanted to test it out.  Although it took up a large space in my makeup bag, I was still able to carry quite a lot with me.

The Sephora website describes the powder as:

A weightless translucent loose powder, formulated with Micro-Blurring Technology™, to set and perfect for a flawless, locked-in finish.
Experience a next level setting powder. Kat Von D’s innovative formula uses delicate mica powders rather than the heavy, chalky binding ingredients found in other powders—reducing the weight by 30 percent. This prevents the dry, chalky finish most powders leave behind, and instead delivers a perfectly smooth, seamless look, with the same number of uses.
This silky, non-drying powder features Micro-Blurring Technology to softly diffuse pores for a refined, selfie-ready finish. Formulated to be undetectable on all skintones, Lock-It Setting Powder has a complexion-boosting blend of mattifying particles to smooth imperfections and lock-in your look for a velvety matte finish. For flawless all-over setting, apply with the Lock-It Setting Powder Brush. To bake or set under-eye concealer, use the Lock-It Precision Powder Brush.

The description is pretty much "on the money", exactly as it claims to be! The powder itself, is a translucent universal shade that has a slight yellow tint to it. On the skin it is completely invisible. The powder is incredibly fine! I mean, really really finly milled!!! When I dip my brush into it, I can barely see it on there but it creates a puff of smoke! Its so fine it literally looks like smoke! Holy cow! I was blown away and honestly a little scared that I have been inhaling too much of it on accident. On the skin, it is completely weightless, I mean I literally feel like nothing is on but my makeup is mattified! This is like HD powder to the next level! I always felt I could still feel the HD powder on my skin, but with this powder, I feel nothing! I also find this powder to be quite smoothing, its glides over the skin leaving it feeling silky and smooth. The finish is also a very natural matte, obviously this depends on how much you put on, I took this powder with me to desert, where is was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and it held my makeup together!

This powder photographs with a slight flashback. I didn't "bake" my face but just set the high points/highlighted areas of my face with the powder. The effect with flash photography is a brightened/reflected light look on those areas. However, it does not show any powderiness, like the HD powders often do, on camera.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this powder! I didn't have high expectations for it, just because I thought it would be "just a powder" but it is incredible! A little goes such a long way and I feel for the cost, its a great value! I don't think I have ever used such a finely milled powder before. I love how weightless this powder is. I highly recommended trying this product out.  You won't be disappointed!
