| Review | Tatcha The Dewy Serum Resurfacing and Plumping Treatment
If you're a long-time reader, you'll know that I LOVE dewy skin! It might be my dry skin but I'm constantly coveting the glow! I was a huge fan of the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream when it first came out, you can read my full review here. I was beyond excited to see them finally release a serum to pair with the cream. I had high expectations for this formula and let me tell you, it doesn't disappoint!
The Tatcha The Dewy Serum Resurfacing and Plumping Treatment retails for $88.00 USD and is available at Sephora. This serum is housed in Tatcha's classic lavender packaging. The bottle is a lightweight plastic that doesn't feel as luxurious as it looks but it is very functional and great for travel. I took this serum with me on a recent trip and it traveled very well without breaking or leaking. The pump on this bottle is high quality and allows you to really control how much you dispense.
FORMULA
The serum has a very light vicious texture that isn't too runny but also not too thick, like a gel. It looks milky and when you apply it to the skin it very quickly absorbs but doesn't disappear into the skin. I really like this consistency because while most of it gets absorbed you can still feel a little bit of the serum on your skin and it feels like a big drink of water for your skin! It instantly hydrates and plumps your skin! Even when your skin is feeling and looking extremely dry and dehydrated, this formula delivers instant dryness relief and makes the skin look incredibly healthy!
You can immediately see the difference in your skin after applying this serum! Your complexion will have this instant all-over healthy glow but this formula doesn't contain any micas or shimmer particles. It just naturally gives your skin a healthy appearance and sheen. It brightens the skin really well, even when you feel your skin is looking very dull and you haven't been sleeping or taking care of yourself very well. This product gives you the look of naturally hydrated skin like you've been drinking lots of water, sleeping over eight hours, and you've just had your cup of coffee!
The dewy finish isn't greasy or glossy but it just looks really fresh, like you just got a facial! The dewy finish shines through sheer bases but the glowing finish isn't strong enough to come through with more satin or matte foundations. This serum works very much like a complexion booster, making the complexion look so good that you don't really want to cover it up. I like to just spot conceal and leave my skin to breathe and glow with the serum on.
The hydration that this serum provides is very long-lasting and keeps my skin feeling plump and hydrated throughout a long day under my makeup. After prolonged use, I noticed my skin is significantly softer, smoother, and it just tends to have a naturally healthy glow, even without the serum on! There are ingredients in this formula that help smooth the texture of the skin and plump out lines on the face. It is very noticeable after using the serum for a week straight or longer. I also notice that it helps increase the elasticity in my skin, giving my skin a really healthy bounce to it. This serum is really about the radiance and juiciness it provides for the skin, which I have not experienced with any other radiance serum.
INGREDIENTS
This formula is considered "clean" by Sephora's standards but may not be what you consider a "clean formula". If a clean formula is what you seek, I would recommend doing further research on this formula to determine if it is right for you. Here is the full ingredients list:
Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis Leaf/Cladosiphon Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate*, Glycerin, Propanediol, Aqua/Water/Eau, Squalane, Glyceryl Stearate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Behenyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrolyzed Elastin, Betaphycus Gelatinum Extract, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Phytosteryl Macadamiate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Dilauramidoglutamide Lysine, Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate, Polyglyceryl-10 Eicosanedioate/Tetradecanedioate, Cellulose Gum, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Disodium Phosphate, Potassium Phosphate, Disodium Edta, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sorbitan Isostearate, Polysorbate 60, Butylene Glycol, Tocopherol, Alcohol, Parfum/Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol.
Lactic Acid in Hadasei-3™ - Lactic acid is a very gentle acid that supports natural skin surface turnover and smooths the look of fine lines and texture. Hadasei-3 is Tatcha's proprietary complex of Japanese superfoods that also contains lactic acid and other gentle AHAs.
Hyaluronic Acid - The main ingredient of this hydrating serum, hyaluronic acid, naturally replenishes moisture and is known to hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. This ingredient is what helps maintain moisture in your skin for hours and it helps plump the skin, making it very supple, fresh, and elastic.
Squalane Derived from Sugarcane - Squalane is known to work as a humectant to seal in moisture and keep skin hydrated throughout the day. It is a very lightweight oil that doesn't clog pores but provides a ton of hydration and acts as an anti-inflammatory, soothing skin irritation and redness. It is also known to help reduce texture on the skin, smoothing and softening pores and surface texture. I believe Tatcha highlights that their squalane is derived from sugarcane because they want to emphasize that this is a vegan squalane, which originally was most popularly derived from animals.
Dimethicone - I'm typically not a fan of skincare products that use dimethicone because I feel like it's a cheap way to fake smoothing, pore-reducing, and wrinkle-reducing effects. It is why dimethicone is used so often in pore-filling primers because it immediately perfects the skin. This serum doesn't have a silicone-heave feel or a slippery feel that is normally associated with dimethicone. I don't mind it in this formula because I didn't notice it all and I wouldn't have guessed it was in this formula until I read the ingredients list. It also helps with prepping the skin for makeup, allowing base products to apply very evenly and smoothly.
Alcohol - I know many people dislike alcohol in their skincare because it is often associated with drying out the skin. While alcohol can be drying, it is often in a high enough content to dry the skin and this serum, in particular, seems to have very low alcohol content. I don't think this serum is drying at all and it is quite the opposite in my opinion. It is a very hydrating and nourishing formula despite the inclusion of alcohol.
Parfum/Fragrance - Fragrance in skincare can cause reactions in sensitive skin types, which is why I wanted to highlight it here. I don't find the fragrance in this product to be very strong at all but even its presence for some people may be too much for their sensitive skin to handle. In general, I have not had a reaction or breakouts due to the fragrance in this product but everyone's skin is different.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Only after about a week of consistent use, I was very impressed with this formula. This serum really delivers the results that it claims! This serum instantly hydrates and illuminates the skin, which is what I would expect from a product like this but this product really goes beyond that by plumping and smoothing the skin. The dewy radiance that this serum provides is so healthy, luscious, and fresh! I love the brightening and luminous effect that this serum provides. It makes me want to wear less makeup because my skin looks so healthy!
I love the dewy finish and long-lasting hydration of this formula. I have used many hyaluronic acid serums but I have not encountered one that offers such a pretty finish to my skin before. If you're just looking for long-lasting hydration, you can probably find a serum that costs less but the unique way this serum illuminates my skin makes it the winner above other hyaluronic acid serums! This serum makes me feel so pretty with very little effort. I can't recommend this formula enough! It really is worth the price and is a product I'm already purchased backup of this serum!

Great review of the serum. I'll be getting one soon to try! Couple of things to note: the alcohols you mention are fatty alcohols. They are used to help moisturise and protect the skin and are very beneficial. They are very different to the drying alcohols such as alcohol denat, 'ethanol' or 'ethyl alcohol'. The main ingredient is also the fermented rice water which is why this so exciting to try 🤗
