Sparkle and twinkle this holiday season with this luxurious shimmering lip balm from Tom Ford. It seems like an appropriate part of a holiday wardrobe to have a little bit of sparkle but is the cost worth it? So many brands are releasing glitter lipsticks and lip balms this year that this pricey lip balm may not be worth it. Read on to learn more about this formula. 

The Tom Ford Soleil Neige Lip Balm Frost retails for $56.00 USD and is available at Sephora and other retailers. This lip balm has a luxurious and chic reflective gold tube. This packaging while beautiful, can easily be scratched and smudged. Like all Tom Ford Lipsticks, it has a bit of weight to it and it feels very luxurious. The lid snaps on and off, like a classic lipstick case. 

SHADE 

This lip balm only comes in one universal soft pink shade encrusted heavily in glitter. The pink shade doesn't really show up at all but is more of a clear lip balm with fine frosty particles of green and gold glitter. I can see why this balm is considered a "frost" because it really is a very frosty and sparkly finish to the lips. I honestly wish there was some sort of color, even a soft tint because the glitter is so aggressive, it can look a bit tacky and overwhelming. The glitter definitely emphasizes textures and lines on the lips

FORMULA 

The balm itself has a very nice smoothing and hydrating formula. It feels noticeable balmy, smooth, and comfortable on the lips; however, the heavy glitter does make it feel somewhat gritty. While it feels hydrating and smooths the lips, the glitter texture emphasizes so much texture that it kind of undoes the smoothing effect from the balm. Since it is a balm, it doesn't have the best longevity, only providing about 2 to 3 hours of wear depending on if you're eating and drinking. Unfortunately, the glitter does not wear off as easily and sticks to the lips long after the balm has faded, which really just makes the lips look even drier than when the balm is there. It also makes it difficult to switch to another lip color, as it doesn't easily come off with a tissue. 

FINAL THOUGHTS 

I love the idea of a fun and glitzy lip balm but this one didn't do it for me. The balm has no color, which wouldn't be an issue except the balm isn't exactly that special formula-wise. While hydrating and smoothing, there are no other special or nourishing properties. It's basically a clear balm with a lot of glitter. The glitter balm isn't flattering on the lips when worn alone. The glitter emphasizes texture and looks incredibly frosty. Also, the glitter makes your lips feel a bit gritty, which is not the most comfortable feeling. The best way to wear this balm is as a lip topper over a lipstick to add a touch of sparkle. However, this doesn't seem to be worth the high cost for a glitter lip top coat. I really think this lip product is a dud and there are many brands that have released a glitter lip color that is much better quality or even equal to this quality for a better price. Save your money and find a glitter lip balm somewhere else.
