With summer in full swing, we're all looking for something that is lightweight, perfecting, protecting, and glowing. Luckily, this Rodan + Fields skin tint has the full package! Plus, it has a great shade range! This tinted moisturizer has a beautiful serum-like texture and is infused with antioxidants. I am so thankful to Rodan + Fields for gifting me this range to review and share. 

The Rodan + Fields Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid SPF 30 retails for $66.00 USD and is available at Rodan + Fields and other retailers. This liquid tinted moisturizer is packaged in a very sleek and convenient plastic bottle with a tapered dropper tip. This packaging is ideal for dispensing the tinted moisturizer because it helps control the amount of this very runny liquid ski tint. Also, this packaging is easy to travel with or take on-the-go. 

SHADES 

This tinted moisturizer comes in a pretty wide range of shades, 10 shades in total. I know that isn't the widest range, especially these days, but the shades are very well spread out throughout a spectrum of skin tones. The formula is also fairly forgiving and buildable, allowing the limited shade range to be enough to cover many skin tones. I will be approximating which skin tones each of the shades will suit based on MAC Cosmetics coloring and based off of my own coloring but this is not exact. I found my best shade is 03 Beige for most of the year but the formula is fairly flexible. 

01 Shell -  This shade is the lightest and it is a neutral light cream shade with just barely a touch of yellow warmth. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC10-NC15. 

02 Cream - This shade is a cool peachy beige with a  very subtle pink undertone. This will suit someone who is approximately an NW15-20. 

03 Beige - This shade is a light-medium beige with warm yellow undertones. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC20-NC25. 

04 Sand - This shade is a warm medium beige that leans more neutral but has a subtle warm golden undertone. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC30-NC35.

05 Golden - This shade is a warm medium tan with a fairly neutral undertone. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC35-NC40. 

06 Honey - This shade is a warm yellow-based tan shade. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC40-NC42.

07 Almond - This shade is a warm tan with a neutral undertone. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC42-NC44.

08 Caramel - This shade is a warm caramel tan shade. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC44-NC45.

09 Espresso - This shade is a warm milk chocolate shade. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC55.

10 Truffle - This shade is a rich and deep chocolate brown with a neutral undertone. This will suit someone who is approximately an NC50.

FORMULA 

This formula is a very lightweight and runny texture. It is a serum-like skin tint, which creates a liquid veil over the skin. The foundation blends into the skin seamlessly and smooths over any texture on the skin, offering a very flawless look. The beauty of this foundation is that it has such a lightweight texture but it offers a beautiful medium to full coverage! You don't need much product to achieve full coverage and the liquid texture literally creates a perfecting veil of coverage over the skin. It covers redness, imperfections, and texture so well. This formula is so fluid it just glides onto the skin and over texture and imperfections, covering them!


Due to the runny texture of this foundation, I think it's best applied with a brush but you can use fingers or a sponge. I prefer using a brush to stipple the product on my face for the most flawless finish and the fullest coverage. Rodan + Fields offers a specific brush to go with this product, the Radiant Defense Liquid Brush, which is a dense synthetic slightly angled brush. This brush is perfect for stippling the runny liquid on the face and because of its density, it applies the product very evenly across the skin and it provides maximum coverage. You can also use this dense brush to buff the product on and achieve a lighter coverage. The brush is very high quality, doesn't shed, and cleans very easily. While it isn't absolutely necessary, I think it's a very nice brush to own for any foundation you may want to apply. A sponge will also give you a lighter coverage because it will sheer out the product but allow you build the coverage you'd like to achieve.





The finish of this foundation is truly radiant and fresh! I often use a radiant primer but there is really no need to with this foundation because it already offers a beautiful healthy glow to the skin. I would say the finish is luminous and dewy but not so over the top that you'd look greasy or wet. It's a beautiful finish and texture. Very reminiscent of the other luxury foundations recently released, like the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation (full review here). I honestly don't think there is a huge difference between these two foundations other than their price tags.

This foundation wears beyond 8 hours beautifully! It melts into the skin and always look really natural and fresh. For those who have more of a normal to oily skin type, you may want to powder in certain areas like the t-zone to prevent your oils from coming through. For my dry skint type, I adore the luminosity and just embrace the bit of oil that come through throughout the day. I don't notice any fading or signs of wear throughout the day. One other reason you may want to powder is prevent transfer, like onto your cell phone or clothing because the foundation doesn't set but it also doesn't feel wet or tacky on the skin. This foundation stays as flawless on throughout the day, as it does after immediate application.

This foundation contains SPF 30, which I appreciate because my personal philosophy when it comes to SPF in foundations is that it should be all or none. I don't like it when foundations have any SPF less than 30 because I just don't see the point in having it at all. I usually wear at least an SPF 30 so, I prefer all my foundations to have no SPF or SPF 30 or higher. I don't notice any flashback from the sun protection when I use flash photography, which means you can wear this product day or night.

This product is also formulated with antioxidants to protect your skin from free radical damage and nourishing ingredients that are supposed to improve your skin over time. While I have not worn this consistently enough to attest to this, I do really trust Rodan + Fields products. I have been using their skincare for a while now and I know their products are extremely high quality and effective. I have no doubts that if I wore this daily, I would see a vast improvement in my skin's texture and overall appearance.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I am very impressed with this tinted moisturizer formula! It is reminiscent of other luxury foundations that are significantly more expensive and it works just as well. I love the glow and coverage this foundation provides for my skin. It's so quick and easy to apply. It takes very little product and effort to achieve the most flawless complexion! I love the way it creates this smooth veil of coverage over my skin, perfecting and illuminating it. Other complexion products blend beautifully on top of this base and look very fresh. This 4-in-1 formula does so much for your skin and overall complexion. I really appreciate skincare infused makeup products that are meant to nourish and protect the skin, as much as it helps perfect the skin. I really love the finish, texture, and formula of this product. I highly recommend checking this product out especially, if you are interested in trying luxury serum foundations. This foundation is beautiful and has quickly become one of my favorite everyday bases.
