| Review | Tarte SEA Breezy Cream Bronzer

Cream bronzers are hot this season! This is the trend I have been waiting for all the brands to jump on because I use cream bronzer religiously! Finally, we are starting to see more brands coming out with a cream formula for bronzers. I never expected Tarte to be one of the first brands to jump on this trend but it immediately drew my attention and I knew I had to try it.

The Tarte SEA Breezy Cream Bronzer retails for $29.00 USD for the full-sized .56 oz version and $14.00 for the mini .21 oz version, both are available at Sephora and other retailers. This cream bronzer is packaged in a beautiful light aqua blue oval plastic compact. The shape is quite unusual for a compact but it looks simple and elegant. This compact also includes a small mirror, which is great for travel. The compact snaps shut and the packaging overall feels very secure. It feels secure but it is hard to tell if this will prevent the cream from drying out over time but it seems like a decent seal.

SHADES

This cream bronzer comes in two shades, one intended for light to medium skin tones and one for medium to deep skin tones. I chose the lighter of the two for my medium to tan skin tone because I prefer a more buildable color and I tend to be heavier handed when it comes to application.

Seychelles - This is the lighter shade of the two bronzers and it has a warm golden tone but also a subtly pink undertone. The pink undertone may seem a bit strange but it helps mimic the sun flushed look you get when you've been outside. It has no shimmer in the formula and looks very natural on the skin.

I swatched the Tarte SEA Breezy Cream Bronzer in Seychelles next to Soleil de Tan de Chanel (the original formula) and the Fenty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer in Macchiato. You can see both the Tarte and Fenty shades are much deeper than the Chanel and they lean more of a true bronze, they don't have the strong yellow-golden tone that the Chanel bronzer has. The Tarte one is by far the most pigmented formula, achieving that intensity with just one swipe, whereas the others had to be layered. The Chanel was the least pigmented and the balmiest texture. The Tarte and Chanel appear to have a very similar finish in the swatches but I find the Tarte is actually has a bit more glow.

FORMULA

This formula is very creamy and smooth. It picks up very easily on a brush but it doesn't feel too emollient. It doesn't have a greasy or slippery texture but it does feel much creamier than my usual Soleil de Tan de Chanel (the original version). This formula isn't balmy, it is a very true cream texture and it has some intense pigmentation. I would consider the pigment to be very strong but also very buildable. I find that I like to lightly tap into the pan, apply the product, and blend. Then, I will go back in with more if I feel like I need it. The emollient texture allows the cream to blend perfectly over foundation without picking up the base or causing patchiness. The cream bronzer just sits and blends very well on top of foundation.

The cream bronzer glides onto the skin and blends out so easily. I find the best technique is to use a buffing brush and stipple the bronzer on the areas where I want the more color and then I take the brush to blend out the edges. The finish of this bronzer is quite glowy with a sheen that is borderline glossy but not quite so wet looking. It looks very fresh and healthy on the skin. If you prefer more of a glow or if you have dry skin, you would enjoy this formula.

Despite being emollient and glowing, the formula lasts very well on the skin throughout the day. This cream bronzer lasts beyond 8 hours and it doesn't fade. Tarte claims that this formula is water-proof and when tested, it passed with flying colors! It really is waterproof and doesn't budge when rubbed against. When I ran my arm under the sink to test this, the water just rolled right off my skin and I even rubbed my skin but the bronzer stood strong! I am so impressed with the longevity and formula! This is the cream bronzer that we've been needing for the hot summer days and Tarte is delivering excellence!

FINAL THOUGHTS

With the discontinuation of the original Soleil de Tan de Chanel formula, I wanted to search for other alternatives and I just love trying new bronzers. I must say, I think I might like this formula just a touch more! I love the more radiant finish to this cream bronzer and the coloring is beautiful. This shade doesn't lean as warm and won't turn orange on fair skin tones like some people experience with the Chanel bronzer. Additionally, the formula is very pigmented, which means it takes less product to make an impact. I also think because the Tarte one is so pigmented, it spans a wider range of skin tones. Plus, it actually comes in a deeper shade, extending to even more skin tones!

I think the formula of this Tarte bronzer is exceptional! From the creamy and blendable texture to the waterproof finish! One of the things I find the most frustrating about wearing cream products is that they often don't last on the skin and they also fade patchily. With this formula, I have a flawlessly bronzed complexion all day long even in the hottest and sweatiest conditions! If you're feeling a little bit down about the discontinuation of the original Soleil de Tan de Chanel formula, then try this! You won't be disappointed by this creamy and pigmented bronzer!
