| Review | Tom Ford Soleil Neige Eye Color Quad

Soleil winter 2019 is getting smokey! Soleil Niege is not only the newest fragrance from Tom Ford but it seems to be the entire mood for winter 2019 with an accompanying eyeshadow quad. This cool smokey eyeshadow palette is channeling all the cool weather vibes and wrapping it up in this even cooler eye quad. If it didn't feel right wearing a smokey eye while wrapped up in snow clothes, you will now because Tom Ford is making winter chic again.

The Tom Ford Soleil Neige Eye Color Quad retails for $88.00 USD and is available at Sephora and other retailers. This palette is housed in the classic quad compact design but is white, instead of the usual cognac color. This compact was only released one time before this season for the original White Suede Quad (full review here). The white packaging is classic for any of the Soleil Collections and it is a fan-favorite!

SHADES

This smokey palette contains all the classic cool-toned smokey shades you need to create the ultimate winter smokey eye. The shades aren't unique because they are shades we see quite often found in smokey eye palettes but it's done in a luxurious Tom Ford style.

Snow White - This shade is a very pure and true shimmering white shade that looks like glistening snow. This shade is very brightening and adds a lovely fresh pop to the inner corner for this very smokey palette.

Shimmering Taupe - This shade is a cool shimmering taupe with flecks of silver shimmer throughout. This shade also have a very subtle and fine pink reflect, which isn't noticeable unless you are very close. It adds just a touch of complexity and interest to the overall look. This shade is not as fine as the others and as a result, it is a bit sheerer.

Midnight Blue - This shade is a very deep midnight blue with flecks of silver shimmer throughout. This deep blue has a very dark base and looks stunning as a smokey eye or as an eyeliner. Because this blue is so rich and deep, it's very wearable.

Sparkling Deep Brown - This shade appears black in the pan but it isn't a true black. The base has a touch of brown to it and it is an almost smokey charcoal shade. This shade has flecks of silver sparkle throughout it and is one of the more sparkly shades in the palette.

FORMULA

This formula always tends to be of excellent quality and this palette is no exception. I do think of the three released for Winter 2019, that this one is not as luxurious in formula because the shades contain larger particles of shimmer, making them sheerer and harder to work with. They require more layering to look opaque and for the shimmer to look intense but when you layer, you will get a lot of intensity. These shades look better used wet because the colors look truer to pan color on the eyes. I have always been a fan of this wet and dry formula because it is so versatile and the eyeshadows can be used in a wearable way or can be amped up to be more dramatic. Like the other shadows in this formula, they wear very well and last all day with minimal fading. The sparkles stay in place and don't migrate all over the face throughout the day.

THE LOOK

For this look, I used the Shimmering Taupe shade all over the eyelid and for a bright highlight, I applied the Snow White to the inner corners. I used just a touch of the Sparkling Deep Brown in my crease and I used the Midnight Blue smudged over black eyeliner for an intense blue-winged look. This is one of my favorite ways to wear this palette because it's such a wearable look.

FINAL THOUGHTS

While this palette is beautiful, I don't find these shades to be very unique. You will often find these shades in many smokey eye palettes and while the formula is nice, it doesn't make the palette worth it if you have many similar shades. The shadows perform well and they last all day but if you're looking for something special from this winter collection, I would check out the other two palettes released. While I enjoy playing with this palette a lot, I know it isn't one I'll reach for very often because the shades are so cool and dark. This palette is great for a night out or holiday party because of the extra sparkly shades. Again, nothing to get too excited about over here because the shades are so basic but the formula is always one I will recommend. There are alwasy so many exciting holiday launches so, I would pass on this palette for something a little more special.
