What can I say? I love my GLOW and with my dry skin, I go to great lengths to maintain it! Part of that routine is ensuring the removal of any dead skin cells that may be lingering on my skin. This causes dullness and uneven texture and prevents your natural glow from coming through! REN has developed a gentle and effective means of exfoliating daily without damaging the skin and stripping it of it's natural and protective oils. The REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic retails for $35.00 USD and is available at REN, Sephora, and other retailers. The tonic is packaged in a large bottle with a pump dispenser! I adore this convenient and easy to use packaging! You simply press a cotton pad to the top and pump twice and you have enough product to sweep across the face and neck! It minimizes so much mess that typically occurs when you have to pour product out. I hope more brands will employ this type of packaging for their liquid products because it is a winner!
The tonic is essentially an exfoliating toner. It contains Lactic Acid, also known as alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), a powerful naturally derived (from milk, fruits, and vegetables) acid that helps exfoliate, smooth and brighten the skin. This type of acid is much more gentle than others so it not as irritating and doesn't cause damage to the skin. It can be used daily however, I highly recommend using daily sunscreen because all acids tend to make the skin sensitive to sun exposure. AHA's are known to help brighten pigmentation and sun spots and boosts the skin's radiance.
Additionally, this product contains Willow Bark, which is a naturally occurring beta hydroxy/salicylic acid (BHA), is a gentle and natural acid to help uplift and remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This is great for all skin types because removal of dead skin cells assists in the absorption of product and improves the overall texture of the skin! It also helps with increasing hydration because it removes the dead cells that would block the product from entering deep into the skin.
The tonic also includes Azelaic Acid, which is a naturally occurring acid from barley, rye, and wheat, it is anti-bacterial, reduces inflammation, removes clogged pores and pigmentation. All of which can be useful for all skin types but particularly acne-prone skin types that often have acne-scarring, dry patches, and inflammation. The anti-bacterial properties will help significantly in reducing and preventing acne!

The important thing to note is this tonic is formulated with a pH between 3.5 and 4.5, which is the sweet spot for your skin's pH level! The importance of maintaining proper pH levels on the skin means that your skin's barrier is healthy. Having a healthy skin barrier means that your skin will let the good thing in and the bad things out! This is strongly determined by your skin's pH level. When your pH level is out of balance, either too acidic or too basic, your skin will either over or under produce oils. This causes acne or extremely dry and irritated skin! This toner balances the skin's pH so that it will retain the right levels of moisture and oils, allow product to penetrate the skin, and provide some nutrients to maintain healthy skin!
The product also contains citrus oils, which is not only very refreshing, but provide anti-aging benefits! Citrus oils are packed with antioxidants, which will help fight skin damage from the environment, the sun, and ageing! The best way to explain how antioxidants work is looking at various fruits. If you open a banana and leave out, it will brown quite quickly because it is low in antioxidants and the fruit is essentially "ageing". When you look at fruits like citruses and berries, even if you expose them to the air (oxygen), they do not brown or deteriorate as quickly because they are packed with antioxidants, preventing them from ageing quickly!
After using this product regularly for several weeks now, I can see a consistent and apparent glow to my skin! My products penetrate deeper into my skin, providing me with much more hydration and skincare benefits than before! I love the refreshing feeling and fragrance of the tonic. I have some sun spots, which has always been an concern of mine, but after using this product, I have seen a reduction on the darkness of my spots. My skin feels softer than ever because it is always fresh new skin that is on the surface! My skin is also very balanced, I haven't felt tightness or any extreme dryness, which is common for my dry skin type. Nor have I broken out in a while! This product is such an easy inclusion into your daily routine and it is so effective! It also reduces my need to use an exfoliant or harsher acids, that may damage my skin. Also, I have always been a fan of REN's naturally derived ingredients and potent formulas. This one is another winner and I couldn't be happier to include it into my routine!
