Review: Louboutin Loubilaque Lip Lacquers in Altareva and Colibretta

The Louboutin Loubilaque Lip Lacquers retail for $85.00 USD and is available at Sephora and other retailers. Yes, you heard right... a WHOPPING $85.00!!

Accroding to Sephora's website, it claims to be...
Loubilaque Lip Lacquer is Christian Louboutin's most dramatic lip formula to date. The brilliant and intense, glassy shine of Loubilaque appears to magnify the color on lips. Bold, sexy, and arresting, they feature eight shades, ranging from nude to bright hues, including the brand’s iconic Rouge Louboutin shade.

As some of you may already know, I am a lacquer-fiend! I'm obsessed with lip lacquers, mostly because I have never been a huge fan of matte lip trend. After trying Giorgio Armani lip lacquers, I was hooked! So naturally, I was very excited to see Christian Louboutin release a line of lacquers. Unfortunately, they are not what they claim to be!

Let's start with packaging, its beautiful! Just as with their lipsticks, they are packaged in a ornate spike-like tube. This time, instead of being made of metal, it is a plastic or perhaps acrylic clear tube. The packaging definitely doesn't feel, "significant" in your hands, its feels like any other lip gloss tube.  It doesn't have a weightiness of luxury packaging. But it is visually very stunning.

The lacquer itself, is a scam. To me, a lacquer is a long-wearing pigmented glossy lip color. This formula is very much a very pigmented lip gloss. It is not long-wearing, at all! In fact it transfers like any other lip gloss and wears off quite easily. The formula is thick but comfortable and smooth on the lips. It reminds me of the Chanel Rouge Allure glosses but with more pigment. The texture isn't sticky but again, quite thick. It does have a very subtle floral scent, that I like but others may find bothersome. The applicator is a pointed doe-foot applicator but with this formula doesn't allow for precision, especially with brighter or darker shades which is when you want precision.

Altareva is a warm rosey nude shade (my camera seems to be picking up different every time, the most accurate image is the first one in the post) with very fine micro-shimmers through it. It is a beautiful natural lip color, great for everyday or bridal wear.  Due to the lightness of this shade, it tends to wear off with the gloss. I love the shade and it is a very flattering but not very unique.

Colibretta is a deep raspberry pink shade (its deeper than in the images in this post), I find this shade to be very beautiful and quite different from any gloss or lip color I own. Although a bit difficult to apply precisely, the color is very vibrant and smooth on the lips. I like that the color stains my lips and lasts longer with this deeper and brighter shade, even after the gloss wearing away.  The stain leftover is also very even and not patchy.

Overall, I am very torn about keeping this product. On one hand, it is NOT a lacquer and it cost $85.00! On the other hand, it is a very nice gloss and the packaging makes me really happy (yes, I am a sucker). I love it for what it is, which is a pigmented lip gloss but the price is much too steep! I definitely CAN NOT recommend it! However, if you really want one, I recommend going for a brighter or deeper shade, so you can get a longer wear out of it.  I know everyone wants to go for a shade that they will wear everyday but in this case, its really not worth it, The "wearable" shades aren't very special and they will not last on your lips. Unfortunately, reapplication is inevitable with this product. If you want a GOOD lip lacquer, I highly recommend the Giorgio Armani lacquers, they come in many shades, they are much more reasonably priced, they are very long wearing and glossy, Everything you expect in a lip lacquer, right?

Let me know what you think about these lacquers. Have tried them? Own one? Returned one?
