I have a real soft spot for face mists and while many of them are just over-glorified waters, I want to believe there's something with more substance out there. Enter in, this serum mist. This concept seems to be a popular thing in Asian skincare and I love the idea of misting on a serum! This concept has some sound science behind it because the smaller the particles of liquid or product on the skin, the easier it can penetrate the skin and the more effective the product is in treating the skin. Will this replace my current serum or just be a new addition to my routine? Read on to find out.

The Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum Mist retails for $72.00 USD for 3.71 oz and is available at Sephora and other retailers. This serum mist is housed in an elegant heavy and hard plastic bottle. It looks and feels quite luxurious despite being made of plastic. The nozzle is very luxurious and looks more like a spray nozzle from a perfume than a face mist. It also provides the finest mist across the face! This is a very high quality misting mechanism.

FORMULA

This serum mist is dual-phase with one layer being a liquid mist and the very top layer is an oil. The oil to mist ratio is excellent, about 90% liquid and 10% oil, and you don't feel the oil on the skin at all. You really don't notice the oil on the skin except that this mist has a dewier finish than others. This dual-phase formula is extremely unique and I haven't really seen it done before in a face mist. It really does add the extra boost of hydration

I think the only concern I have regarding this dual-phase formula is separation. As we all know, water and oil don't mix so, after shaking the bottle, the oil quickly rises to the top. I find that to ensure I am getting the full formula, I spritz my face in sections and shake the bottle often. This isn't a huge inconvenience but I do want to mention it because one shake will not stay homogenous for very long.

That being said, this serum mist is pretty incredible! Not only does it provide a lot of hydration, it really softens and plumps the skin! My skin always feels significantly softer, refreshed, and my skin looks very youthful and plump. I also notice that over time, my skin just feels softer and much more supple. It really does help with the elasticity of my skin and it gives it a very healthy bounce.

This mist is extremely fine, which I love and is essential for absorption. The finer the particles the easier it is for your skin to absorb and the more efficient the treatment is for your skin. These fine particles make it easy for your skin to process the treatment. I have noticed the difference from years of using the face mists, the fine mist makes a huge difference. The closer you mist your face, the more generous of a layer you will get, and the farther away, you will get a more even application.

Thi formula plays very well with all products and under or over makeup. I love sandwiching a hyaluronic acid serum between layers of this mist for juicy and hydrated skin. I start with a generous spritz of this all over, then hyaluronic acid serum, and seal it all in with another layer of this mist. This mist is also super fine and can be used over makeup to refresh and hydrate the skin. It adds a lovely fresh glow because of the oil in the formula.

INGREDIENTS

The full ingredients list is here:

Water / Aqua / Eau, Butylene Glycol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Fragrance/Parfum, Sodium Chloride, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Limonene, Disodium Edta, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Honey/Mel/Miel, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Seed Extract, Polygonatum Officinale.

This formula contains Sulwahsoo's exclusive complex JAUM Balancing Complex, which is a potent complex of five Korean medicinal herbs. According to the company the five herbs are Peony, Sacred Lotus, Solomon’s Seal, White Lily, and Rehmannia.

Peony - Peony root extract is a natural antioxidant that brightens pigmentations and discoloration. It also helps prevent environmental damage and gives the skin a radiance.

Sacred Lotus - Rich in antioxidants, this ingredient is a great skin conditioner. It's intensely hydrating, making the skin soft and supple. It also increases the elasticity of the skin, heals dry skin, and prevents breakouts.

Solomon's Seal - This herb is known for its antiaging properties, its acne healing properties, and its soothing properties for irritated skin. It is also known to help protect the skin from sun damage and heal wounds on the skin.

White Lily - This ingredient is very soothing and it has anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps detoxify the skin and balances cell renewal. It also helps even the tone of the skin and enhances radiance. It is also a deeply hydrating and conditioning ingredient.

Rehmannia - This ingredient is known to be an anti-inflammatory and is good for healing skin conditions. It is a highly mysterious ingredient and doesn't seem to have a lot of information regarding its use in skincare and it has a lot of debatable information regarding its medicinal use.

You can also see that there are two oils in this formula, olive, and jojoba. Olive oil is known for being very nourishing but it can be heavy but since there is very little of it and it is blended with the liquid mist, I don't find this mist clogs pores. Instead, you get the benefits of the olive fruit oil. Olive fruit oil is very high in antioxidants and vitamins. It is great for repairing scars and hydrating the skin.

The jojoba oil in this formula is excellent for hydrating the skin but it is also known for really softening the skin's texture and making the skin more supple. Combined with the medicinal herbs in this formula, the oils really help carry the treatment that these herbs provide into the skin.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you feel like you're not getting enough out of your face mists, this is the product for you! The serum-mist hybrid delivers the best of both worlds! The light and fast-absorbing texture of a mist, along with the hydrating formula is fused with the nutrient-rich formula of a serum delivers the ultimate treatment to the skin! This goes far beyond a face mist and actually delivers a powerful treatment in a convenient and efficient form. As I discussed earlier, smaller particles absorb into your skin more efficiently so, while this product is pricey, it is an efficient treatment. Plus, the serum properties make this formula very potent. If you need more hydration, more treatment, and love a glow, you need to try this mist! I have decided that his mist is going to be a staple in my routine! I highly recommend trying this serum mist out! It will work for a variety of skin types and it truly is an impressive and unique formula!
