I have been on awaiting this launch from Wayne Goss. I knew that he would eventually go into making eye makeup and I couldn't be more excited. As a professional makeup artist, he knows exactly how to craft an eye palette that is both beautiful and practical. There's nothing more frustrating than having to search through another palette or drawer of eyeshadows for something to work with an eye palette. Like Wayne Goss, I think an eyeshadow palette should be versatile enough and contain all the shades necessary to stand alone. Wayne Goss has created his palettes with this in mind and I can see this palette being a staple in anyone's collection.

The Wayne Goss The Luxury Eye Palette in Imperial Topaz retails for $55.00 USD and is available at Beautylish. This palette is housed in a slim and sleek black compact that has quite a lot of heft to it. It feels very luxurious and significant in your hands. The compact also feels very sturdy and protective with strong snap closure of the compact.

SHADES

This palette contains some very staple neutral tones with a variety of finishes and textures. The variety of finishes is impressive and very balanced, allowing you to create a dimensional look. I can tell Wayne Goss thought through the concept of this palette very thoroughly because it is so easy to use and so balanced. I appreciate the versatility of the shades. This palette can really work for anyone, from a skilled artist to a makeup novice.

Shade 01 (top left) - This shade appears to be light gold in the pan but when applied to the eyes, it is actually a lighter and brighter true champagne shade with a soft satin finish.

Shade 02 (top middle) - This shade is a soft light taupe-bronze shade with a soft satin finish. This shade reminds of a slightly warmer version of MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow.

Shade 03 (top right) - This shade is rich deep matte black eyeshadow. This eyeshadow has the driest texture but it still applies very rich and deep on the eyes.

Shade 04 (bottom left): This shade is a warm copper shade with a strong orange undertone and a very fine gold shimmer.

Shade 05 (bottom middle): This shade is a warm matte medium brown with a matte finish. This is the most versatile shade in the palette that can be used in just about any look.

Shade 06 (bottom right): This shade is a very sheer sparkling champagne with some larger bits of silver sparkle.

FORMULA

Satin Eyeshadows

These satin eyeshadow have probably the most unique formula I have come across because the satin finish is so smooth, silky, and refined. The luminosity of this eyeshadow comes from the softest and smallest luminous particles! The finish of these eyeshadow reminds me of a satin ribbon or a real pearl with a very soft glow but no visible shimmer particles. It just creates a beautiful sheen on the eyes and because it still has a strong pigmentation but a soft finish, you can use these shadows in the crease for dimension, definition, and depth.

When Wayne Goss said that he wanted to make a palette that works for all ages, I truly believe that he succeeded when I use these satin eyeshadows. As I have gotten older, metallic and frosty eyeshadows  just don't look amazing on my eyes anymore and I'm not even that old, I know, but even the minor lines and texture on my eyes have made certain textures less flattering. I can happily say that the texture of these satin eyeshadows will look beautiful on eyes of any age!

They have such a beautifully soft and creamy texture that glides over the lids. These eyeshadows blend out beautifully. What I really appreciate about this formula is the perfect balance between a soft texture and a reasonable eyeshadow density. What I mean by this is there are many popular formulas where the eyeshadows are so dense and creamy, they feel like a borderline cream eyeshadow. The issue with this is that it can look and feel very heavy on the eyes. Also, the dense and creamy texture causes the eyeshadow to crease and transfer on strange parts of the eye if you have a hooded lid like mine. These eyeshadows are perfectly soft without being dusty but have a light density that allows it to adhere to the lid without looking heavy.

Matte Eyeshadows

Matte eyeshadows, in general, are hard to formulate properly but Wayne Goss has done an exceptional job with his matte eyeshadows. They have a nice medium buildable pigment, which makes it so easy to work with. While we all want a pigmented eyeshadow, if the eyeshadow is too pigmented, it can make it very difficult to build up the color and blend. These matte eyeshadow have the perfect amount of pigment to start with and they are very easy to build to be extremely dark and intense.

I have to applaud Goss for the formulation of black eyeshadow in particular because black eyeshadows are notoriously hit or miss. Getting a true black shade is extremely difficult and like he stated in his video introducing this palette, many palettes offer you a dark grey and not a true black. Not only is this shade a very rich, deep, and true black but it applies so evenly and smoothly! I've run into the issue of black eyeshadows applying like a grey patchy mess and they don't adhere or layer over other eyeshadows very well. This one layers beautifully over other eyeshadows and can really smoke out a look and add a ton of dimension and definition!

Sparkle Eyeshadow

This sheer and sparkling formula is very creamy and translucent. It leaves the eyes with an almost wet-looking finish to the eyes. It has a unique translucent sparkle that is reminiscent of water sparkling in the sunlight. There are very obvious particles of sparkle but the creamy texture allows the sparkles to adhere very well to the eyes and it doesn't leave fallout on the skin. The translucent nature to the eyeshadow makes it extremely versatile for layering over just about any eyeshadow.

THE LOOK

For this smokey look, I applied the Matte Brown shade into my crease and blended it upwards toward my brow bone. I then blended the edges of the Matte Brown with the Copper shade, blending upward towards my brow. Then, I applied the Taupe-Bronze shade all over my lid and the Champagne shade in my inner corner. Finally, I took the Black eyeshadow and I layered it on the very outer corner of my lid, blending it into the crease. For my bottom lid, I applied some of the Matte brown and the Black on the outer corner.

FINAL THOUGHTS

You can tell from the first time using these eyeshadows that there was a lot of thought and love put into creating this palette. From the color choices and textures to the formulation of each finish, this palette is truly crafted by an artist. What is beautiful about this palette was that it wasn't designed just for an artist to use but also an everyday person. My philosophy with palettes is that their shades should all work together to create a cohesive and dimensional look without the addition of other eyeshadows. I know Wayne Goss feels the same way and he really crafted this palette to stand strong alone! You really don't need any other eyeshadow to create a look, this palette has everything you need!

The satin eyeshadows are particularly impressive because they are unlike any eyeshadow I have ever used before! They're just so silky and smooth with the perfect amount of soft pearl to add dimension and light to the eyes. This palette will definitely become a staple in many collections because of the versatile and timeless shades. The formula of these eyeshadows is to easy to apply and blend, it is truly effortless beauty. From a novice to an artist, I highly recommend this palette! Not only do you get a ton of product but the quality is luxurious and exceptional!
