| Review | MAC Cosmetics Bronzer Collection Foiled Eyeshadows
It's been a long time since MAC Cosmetics has set off my beauty radar. They really fell off the map for me years back when it just seemed like they were pumping out mediocre limited edition products as a monthly cash grab tactic. I just got tired of trying to keep up with all the collections and the products just weren't great quality. Well, this summer Bronzer or Bronzing Collection for Summer 2020 really just sucked me in. It's not just the packaging though, it's the colors and finishes of all these products that made pull the trigger. Well, I'm here to say that I am very happy with my purchases.
The MAC Cosmetics Bronzer Collection Foiled Eyeshadows retail for $26.00 USD and are available at MAC Cosmetics and other retailers. This limited-edition collection features a rosy bronze compact with splashes and drips of metallic rose gold. Anyone with a rose gold obsession would fall head over heels for this packaging. I know I did! The packaging itself is actually very standard plastic, nothing weighty or luxurious, juts utilitarian other than the unique design on the outside. I have found with my previous compacts that excessive use and travel will wear down this packaging. I recommend packing these products carefully and not just tossing them in a bag.
SHADES
These eyeshadows come in 5 shades, few are repromotions from collections that were released many years ago. The names have been changed to suit the collection but the shades are supposed to be the same repromoted colors. The shades that were chosen for this collection definitely suit the summer vibe and the Bronzer Collection theme. I purchased three shades:
Monaco-co - This shade is a sparkling champagne with a bronze base and a soft golden shimmer. There is also a strong silver reflect that gives all the eyeshadows the metallic effect.
Sand Tropez - This shade has strong rose gold base with a bronze undertone and silver reflects throughout. You can see the warmth and rosiness of the shade but it has the added depth from the bronze base.
Tide N Seek - This shade is a very unique shade that shifts in tone when paired with different shades. This shade is a combination of deep purple, blue, and taupe with strong silver shimmer reflects.
FORMULA
This formula is very smooth and creamy. It has this gel-powder texture that glides over the lids and leaves an almost-glossy sparkle to the eyes. The eyeshadows are quite pigmented and require very little to offer a full impact. This creamy texture is so beautiful and easy to apply and blend. These eyeshadows are very aptly described as foiled, they aren't too metallic but they still have a strong shine to them.
The shimmers are extremely fine in this formula, leaving your lids with a glistening effect. I like to describe this finish as water glistening in the sunlight. It sparkles and reflects but it doesn't have a metal-like finish like a metallic eyeshadow would. This type of eyeshadow finish is quite shiny and does emphasize texture. My eyes look a bit crepey with these shadows on but it doesn't look bad. I would just be wary if you have a fair amount of texture or lines on your eyes.
This eyeshadow formula works very well paired with each other but ideally, you'll want to use other textures and finishes. These eyeshadows last all day long, beyond 8 hours without a primer. The gel-powder formula just adheres very well to the eyes and maintains its intensity. This formula is quite creamy so, without a primer, it has a tendency to crease a bit over time.
THE LOOK
I used all the foiled shades together to create this look and feel it still displays a lot of depth and dimension even though it's all the same texture. I placed Monaco-co on the inner third of the eye and San Tropez in the middle of my eye. I used Tide N Seek in the very outer corner and blended it to a soft angle. The shades work together beautifully for a shimmering summer look.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I am very impressed with this eyeshadow formula! They look very true to their pan color on the eyes and their intensity is beautiful. I love that one swipe offers so much pigment and fine sparkle. This formula has a beautifully creamy and dense texture that just glides onto the eyes so well. The finish is just such a beautiful glistening metallic that doesn't look frosty and tacky on the eyes. It's a very refined and sophisticated way to wear an intensely shimmery eyeshadow. These eyeshadows work so well with each other or with other eyeshadows. I'm just so happy to see that MAC is actually releasing some quality products in these limited edition collections again! It gives me hope for the future of the brand and has brought me back to them as a consumer. I look forward to seeing some more products from them and I hope they will maintain the same excellent quality as these eyeshadows.
