| Review | Wayne Goss The Luxury Lip Collection

The legendary makeup artist, Wayne Goss, has finally come out with a makeup collection! He's starting out with the most beautiful and luxurious selection of neutral lip products! I could not resist picking up a few to see if they are truly as luxurious as they look. Wayne Goss has always taken so much pride in his work and I expect nothing but excellence from this range of lip products.

The Wayne Goss The Luxury Lip Collection is exclusively available at Beautylish. This collection contains The Luxury Lipsticks, which retail for $28.00 USD, The High Shine Glosses, which retail for $22.00 USD, and finally, The Essential Lip Pencils, which retail for $14.00 USD. I have to say for a luxury lip collection, I appreciate the very reasonable prices! Normally, luxury lipsticks start around $36 but while these prices are high, they're not ridiculous for a luxury lipstick.

THE LUXURY LIPSTICKS

PACKAGING

Housed in sleek glossy black tubes, these lipsticks look very chic, classic, and just a little bit basic. Don't get me wrong, I think they're simplicity is very elegant but it also lacks a little of the luxury I was expecting from the name. The tubes are made of black plastic but they have a much more significant and a bit heftier feel in your hands. The lid snaps on and feels very secure. Overall, it seems like very utilitarian packaging as opposed to luxury packaging but there's nothing wrong with that! In fact, I think this exceptional packaging given the price of the lipstick. I believe his choice for simple packaging not only keeps the price lower for consumers but there is also a lot less waste when it comes to packaging. I think the details of his brand name written on the outside and on the inside of the packaging adds just the perfect amount of elegant edge to the packaging.

SHADES

This launch includes 10 beautiful neutral lipsticks that have a wide range of shades to suit every skin tone! Also, all the shades offered are extremely wearable and are meant to excellent stand-alone lipsticks without the need for a liner or gloss (although he did release those too). All the shades are named after flowers, which I think is so cute. The shades I chose are:

Camellia - This shade is a very peachy beige nude shade and contains no shimmer.

Daisy - This shade is a soft creamy petal pink nude shade without any shimmer.

FORMULA

These lipsticks have a very buildable creamy formula. Although these are very pigmented, they initially apply on the sheerer side but can be built up to be opaque very easily, in about three swipes of the lipstick. The lipstick has a very smooth and slightly balmy texture. It feels very light on the lips and although it can be built to an opaque color, it never feels thick or heavy. This balmy texture gives the lipstick its slightly glossy finish. This luminosity makes the lips look very healthy and fresh. This also means that the wear-time is reduced, maybe slightly less than your average lipstick. If you aren't eating or drinking, you'll probably get 3-5 hours of solid wear with little fading and if you are eating drinking, it will be significantly less. The formula is an incredibly comfortable one, like I said, it feel very lightweight. The smooth and creamy formula leave the lips feeling vert moisturized and smooth. Not nearly as moisturizing as an actual balm but it offers much more pigment.

THE HIGH SHINE GLOSSES

PACKAGING

These glosses are housed in elegant rectangular glass tubes that beautifully display the gloss inside. The top of the tube is made of the same sturdy black plastic as the lipstick tubes. Despite the top of the tube being plastic, this packaging looks extremely luxurious and beautiful. These glosses come with an elongated oval doe-foot sponge tip applicator. I think the applicator is the perfect size for quick application but it isn't so big that you can't get precision with your application. The pointed tip allows you to get the corners of the mouth and your cupid's bow perfectly.

SHADES

These glosses come in 7 universal shades that can suit a wide range of skin tones. These glosses have 2 different finishes with shimmer and without shimmer, however, the level of and type of shimmer varies among the shades. The shades I chose are:

Antique Rose - This sparkling rose gold gloss has a fairly sheer base, pretty much a clear base. This gloss has slightly larger sparkling particles, which create a glistening and wet glossy look on the lips. The gloss contains mostly rose gold shimmer but also small particles rainbow shimmer with flecks of green, pink, and silver.

Hibiscus - This shimmering gloss contains ultra-fine soft pink shimmer particles. The particles are so fine when first applied, it looked almost metallic on the lips but when blended, it gives a very glossy and subtle sheen to the lips. Like the other gloss, the base is pretty much clear and the pigment comes from the shimmer suspended in the gloss.

FORMULA

The first thing I notice about these glosses is their soft mint fragrance. Mint isn't my favorite but isn't bothersome. What does bother me is that the fragrance doesn't match the other products in the range because the lipsticks have a soft vanilla scent. If these are meant to be used together, I would prefer consistency in the fragrance.

These glosses have a slightly thicker texture, allowing it to easily coat and cling to the lips. This thicker texture is barely tacky but not sticky or uncomfortably tacky. The formula is actually perfectly balanced between being thick for adhering to the lips but also smooth and balmy. These feel incredible on the lips! They create a balmy and smooth layer over the lips, which seems to be the texture everyone is striving for these days but not many brand have successfully achieved.

These glosses have a pretty sheer pigment especially, the shimmers, which seem to have a clear base. The shades without shimmer seem to have a nice medium pigment that can be built up a little but they're still very much a classic slightly sheer gloss. The shimmer glosses have the most beautiful glistening finish! They make your lips look like glistening water in the sunlight, which is such a rare and wonder effect! They will really make your lips look juicy! The shimmers are also extremely fine and you don't feel a thing on your lips! Nor grit, just really fine glitter! I will say, I don't love these glosses over the lipstick. They cause the lipstick to break down and look a bit patchy.

These glosses seem to last the average gloss wear-time about 2-3 hours, depending on if you're eating and drinking. They're easy enough to apply blindly without a mirror because they're so sheer and the applicator is easy to use.

THE ESSENTIAL LIP PENCILS

PACKAGING

These lip pencils are classic wooden lip pencils that need to be sharpened and they come with a metal cap to protect the tip. The wooden pencil is in the coordinating color to the actual lip liner and it has the brand printed in silver. This is very standard packaging or styling for a lip pencil. YOu will have to sharpen these to continually use them.

SHADES

These lip liners come in 5 neutral tones, spanning a good range to pair with the other lip products in the collection.

Vintage Pink - This shade is a light peachy nude on my lips with a medium pigment, it lightens my lip color, which I like when pairing it with a sheer gloss but I do find I still need more definition to my lips. On my skin tone and lip color, it is a good shade to mute my lip color but not offer definition.

Mauve - This soft mauve pink shade offers the perfect natural definition I need for my lip color and skin tone. It has the perfect mixture of pink, mauve, and brown to look natural on every skin tone. This one will be a winner for many people who love to overline their lips but they don't want people to notice it. It looks incredibly natural even when you're overlining.

FORMULA

These lip liner have a nice harder texture that isn't as creamy and emollient as many lip liners today. It is actually my preferred texture because ti allows you to get really precise and instead of blending into your creamy lipstick, it stays defined and helps enhance the lip shape. Many formulas these days are too creamy and they just feel like a very fine tipped lipstick. These are a great slightly waxy texture that just keeps lipstick from feathering but more importantly defines the lips. It doesn't easily melt when you apply gloss on top, which is my preferred way to wear lip liner. This harder formula also means that the tip of the pencil stays sharp for longer, you don't have to sharpen it as often because it's not melting into your lips. These have a very buildable pigment, as well, which is ideal because you can really slowly sketch and even shade your lip shape out. I'm not lip liner connoisseur but this one is a winner in my book! They make my lips look pouty and full but they still look so natural!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, I think this is a beautiful lip collection. Everything is has a beautiful formulation and for the price, you really can't go wrong. It isn't what I consider "luxury" but it is very high end and a high quality range. The textures and finishes, though not incredibly unique, are very beautiful. Everything feels amazing on the lips and I have not experienced any irritation from any of the formulas. The shade range is pretty incredible as well. While I didn't choose the most diverse range of shades, he definitely offers a big shade range. I think that if I had to choose a must-have from the range, it would the lip glosses because they have this mesmerizing effect on the lips. Plus, the balmy and smooth formula is just dreamy! These glosses have a very innovative formula that I haven't found in many brands and the twinkling reflects are just so beautiful. The lipsticks are a creamy and pigmented delight to use and wear. Even the lip pencils are some of my favorite in my collection!  The harder formula allows you to really customize your shaping and shading of the lips! I can't recommend these lip products enough! Really for the price, you can't beat these luxurious, comfortable, and pigmented formulas!
