Inspired by the iconic and beautiful city of Paris, By Terry has beautifully crafted this night time palette to honor the city and give us all a taste of evening French beauty. Embossed with beautiful icons of Paris and the By Terry branding, it's hard not to fall in love with this beautiful palette. Not to mention the luxurious gold packaging! This palette was very kindly gifted to me from By Terry.
PACKAGING & PRICE
The By Terry V.I.P Expert Pairs By Night Eyeshadow Palette retails for $56.00 USD for 13.4 grams and is available at By Terry and other retailers. Seeing that this palette has 13.5 grams of eyeshadow would already sell me on this palette because that is so much product! For the price, getting 10 shades totaling 13.5 grams is an incredible value for a luxury brand! I've paid a lot more for a lot less eyeshadow and fewer shade options as well.
This palette is slim, sleek, and sophisticated. The compact has a stunning gold cover with a beautiful illustration Paris etched in the iconic By Terry violet color. The gold cover is extremely reflective and so luxurious. Inside, you'll find a large mirror and a small brush applicator.
SHADES
There are 10 shades included in this palette, which is more than enough to create many beautiful and complex eye looks! The theme of this palette is, of course, the evenings in Paris. Naturally, the shades are very deep, rich, and smokey. With a variety of finishes, you can really create looks with a lot of depth and dimension.

Deep Charcoal (matte) - This shade isn't a true black but more of a very deep charcoal shade. To me, this is very close to a true black and good enough to add a lot dimension. It is a great smokey eye shade without being too dark and difficult to work with. This shade is buildable and easy to use to add smokiness.
Cream (matte) - This matte cream shade is very pigmented and silky. It's a fairly neutral cream shade that works well as an all-over eyeshadow to even out the eyelids or as a highlighter on the browbone.
Warm Bronze (shimmer) - This warm gold bronze shade has a very warm and golden undertone. It offers a nice warm balance to such a cool-tone eye palette.
Charcoal (shimmer) - This shimmering charcoal shade is beautiful for adding depth and blending shimmer and matte shades together. It has a very subtle gunmetal sheen to it that adds some complexity.
Gunmetal (shimmer) - This metallic gunmetal shade leans very cool-toned and has a subtle blue tone to it. It pairs well with the very cool and shades in this palette. It has some fine silver reflects in it that plays well with the dark shades in the palette.

Champagne (shimmer) - This champagne shade has a subtle warmth and golden shimmer to it. It is a beautiful lid shade or highlighter in the inner corner of the eyes. It really brightens up the deep eyeshadows when used as a highlight.
Cool Brown (matte) - This cool brown shade has a very taupe and gray tone to it. This deep brown adds a lot of depth and complexity. I often use this shade instead of the Deep Charcoal for some looks to add depth because it is a bit more subtle and nuanced.
Warm Berry (shimmer) - This warm shimmering berry shade is so unique. When swatched, you can see the real warm bronze undertone, making the berry color more vibrant. It also has some cool plum shimmer. When paired with the cool-toned shades, it transforms becoming a much cooler purple color and adapts to the shades it's paired with. This color is very complex and nuanced.
Aqua Blue (shimmer) - This vibrant bright aqua blue shade stands out in this palette. It is a baby blue shade with an almost-pastel quality to it but on the skin, you can see a silvery tone to the eyeshadow, along with some deeper blue reflects. This shade is a very fun pop of color for this palette and can be used in so many ways.
Light Taupe (matte) - This light taupe shade has a very strong gray undertone. It is almost a light gray shade but it has some taupe qualities to it. It makes a beautiful crease color and helps transition from the crease to the browbone.
FORMULA
Matte Eyeshadows
The matte eyeshadow formula is soft, lightweight, and blendable. I would consider these matte eyeshadows to be fairly pigmented and very buildable, which is my preferred formula. These shadows pick up on the brush very well and although soft, they don’t cause fallout. They adhere very well to the eyes and apply evenly. It doesn’t take much product to build up to an intense color but I often use the matte shadows as contour and defining shades so, I don’t often want them to be extremely pigmented.
These eyeshadows have a very silky texture and they blend out well but it remains very rich in color and pigmented. I love how these matte shadows adhere to each other and other eyeshadows. It makes it very easy to build upon eyeshadows and create a complex look.
Shimmer Eyeshadows
These shimmer eyeshadows are very pigmented, vibrant, and rich! One swipe and you're guaranteed to get a full veil of color! These eyeshadows have a very creamy and dense texture. It is almost a texture that feels between a cream and a powder eyeshadow. These types of formulas tend to crease but this one has a very nice balance between being creamy and having a powdery finish, so there is no problem with creasing. This creamy and dense texture adheres very well to the eyes and doesn't fade at all throughout the day. In fact, my eyeshadow is as vibrant at the end of the day, as it is when I first applied it.
The shimmer in these shadows is very fine and because of the creaminess of the eyeshadow, these appear very metallic on the eyes. This is a beautiful finish that works well on all ages because it doesn't feel over the top or over emphasize texture. These eyeshadow layers very well on top of each other and they blend seamlessly into each other. I really love that when these shimmer eyeshadows are layered they mix together and transform into interesting and complex new shades.
THE LOOK
This is one of my favorite looks I have ever created, unfortunately, my eyes were very puffy from allergies when I created this look. So, please excuse the puffiness. I first took the Light Taupe shade and applied it into my crease, building it up to create a good contour and diffusing the edges to the browbone. Then, I applied the Cool Brown heavily in the outer corner with a flat brush and I took a crease brush to blend the edges into the Light Taupe.
Next, I applied the Warm Berry shade across the center toward the inner corner. To blend the Warm Berry, I applied the Charcoal Shimmer shade on the outer edge of the Warm Berry toward the outer corner. To further blend and add complexity to the look, I applied the Gunmetal shade in the center of the lid blending the Warm Berry and the Charcoal Shimmer. To finish, I added a pop of the Champagne shade in the very inner corner and the Cream shade on the browbone.
FINAL THOUGHTS
It will probably come at no surprise but I really love this palette! Cool-toned eyeshadows, particularly smokey ones, tend to be very intimidating to wear for most people but this palette has some very wearable shades and they can be layered to create very complex looks! I love the balance of matte and shimmer shades in this palette. I think that this palette was very well thought out when it came to the color palette and the matte shades were very well chosen to ensure there were shades to create dimension, depth, and contour.
Additionally, the shimmer eyeshadows are particularly exceptional because they are beautifully complex and they have a unique creamy and dense texture. The shimmer eyeshadows are truly a delight to use! They feel like a very luxurious formula and the rich color is just a testament to the quality of the eyeshadows. All the eyeshadows just glide on the eyes so easily and blend out perfectly with no fallout! I can't recommend this palette enough! It really has all the shades you need to create a huge variety of looks in a beautiful travel-friendly compact! If you're looking for an exceptional cool-toned eyeshadow palette, this one is a must-have! Plus, you get an amazing value for the price!
