Review: LuLu The Face Company

LuLu The Face Company is a new cosmetics brand created by Linda Temkin, who has 30 years of experience in the beauty industry. Their line is fashion forward and trendy but contain high-quality natural ingredients. The reached out to me about trying some of their bestselling products from their line. I was, of course, very excited to try the new brand with their ingredient-conscious products and exclusive formulations.

Before we go into the products and formulations, let's talk about packaging. I feel their packaging is a little incomplete and this is probably due to the fact that they are a new brand. Many new brands take some time to invest money into sturdier and more branded packaging. I also believe that the products that are sent to me are considered "PR samples" and are often in sample packaging and incomplete packaging. That being said, you can't judge a lipstick purely by its packaging and these products really do speak for themselves.

Liquid Matte Lipstick in Escape Artist ($20.00 USD) -  As many of you know, I am not a big fan of matte liquid lipstick because many of them tend to be very drying and emphasize every line on your lips. This formulation does not dry out the lips at all but it is also not a matte finish. These LuLu Liquid Lipsticks actually remind me a lot of the Le Metier de Beaute Moisture Matte Lip Creams (which retail for $42.00 USD each)! This liquid lipstick is very opaque and solid in one application but it doesn't dry down. It stays a liquid lipstick on the lips, so there is transfer and some shine to the lips. The pigmentation is very impressive, especially for a deep vampy red shade like this one. It applies very smooth and feels very comfortable on the lips.  The applicator is a very flat doe-foot applicator with a rounded tip. This shape does not allow for precision so I recommend after laying down most of the color in the center of the lips, going in with a lip brush for the edges. The lip product doesn't have any scent or flavor and it lasts your standard lipstick time, about 3 to 5 hours, depending on how much you are drinking or eating, etc. I honestly don't mind that the finish is not a true matte, because I really hate the matte lipsticks that dry down and crust on to your lips. This lipstick is very comfortable and it comes in 11 different shades from nudes to the deep red.

Makeup Saver Setting Mist ($40.00 USD for 4.0oz) - A makeup look isn't complete without a little setting spray. The LuLu Setting Spray isn't only a makeup setting spray but a skin firming ant-aging skincare product.  This product does a very good job of setting the makeup and fixing any powderiness on the skin. My only problem with it is the spray bottle. It doesn't spray evenly and leaves larger droplets on the face. If you ever run across this problem with larger droplets, go in with a brush and stipple it over your face. It will not ruin your makeup and it will evenly disperse the product. The setting spray does set my makeup and make it last for a whole 8 hours. It feels light and not at all greasy and it seems to absorb quickly so your skin doesn't stay wet. The spray also doesn't disrupt the makeup and it enhances the overall texture the makeup, making it look smooth and even.

Volumizing Mascara ($23.00 USD) - This mascara really surprised me. I'm very very picky with mascaras and at this point in my life, I rarely experiment with new brands when it comes to mascaras but this one actually impressed me! First of all, when you first pull the wand out of the tube, it looks like there is no product on the applicator and really there isn't much but that is the magic of this mascara! By applying thin layers, it will take some time build up, my lashes were separated and lifted without getting any clumps. After many layers, I recommend using the tip to apply more product and then brushing through with the applicator, it gives me a "fluttery" lash look! It's literally the only word to describe my lashes, fluttery! The just look soft, natural, separated and lifted. I normally go for a much clumpier and thicker mascara but I loved how this mascara made me look like I had more lashes! Somehow it found lashes it didn't even know existed! I also have pretty watery eyes, especially when wearing contacts, this didn't once smudge or flake on me! Although it is not waterproof, it stayed all day until I removed it! For the price, I really think its a great mascara. It will take time to build, so if you're in a hurry, you may want to choose another mascara for the day but if you put in the time and patience, you can get beautiful fluttery lashes with this mascara!

Nail Polish in Secret Love ($12.00 USD) - This nail polish is a 3-free nail polish (Formaldehyde-Free, Toluene-Free, and DBP-Free)! It's important to move towards polished that lack these harsh chemicals that cannot only ruin your nails but can potentially make you ill. This beautiful taupey plum is a very unique shade that I haven't seen before. It looks lighter in the bottle than on the nails. On the nails the shade is actually a smokey taupey plum color. I think the shade is a very cool shade and it will work for all skin tones. I personally gravitate more towards nude or natural polish shades but this is fun color for when I'm feeling edgy! I applied this polish on top of my base coat and I applied three layers. This nail polish isn't streaky but its not opaque in one coat. It takes about three coats to get it perfect but the polish is very easy to apply.  The brush is pretty standard and works well. The formula is a bit runny, so be sure to wipe the brush off before applying. The dry time is a bit slow but not awful. I didn't apply a top coat because I wanted to see it's lasting power and it's  lasted me a week, with minor chipping but I have been doing a lot with my hands. For the price, I think it is an excellent nail polish! I'd like to try some of the pretty nude shades they offer!

Overall, I think the LuLu Face Company has some really great products. I would like to see a little improvement on their packaging but other than that, their products seem very high-quality! I have browsed their website and they have many unique offerings that I would love to try out, like their Fit and Flushed (liquid illuminator/bronzer/blush), their Lip Fix (lip primer), their Eyelights Shadow Primer (a colored illuminating eye primer), and their Mineral Moisture Tint. These products look very intriguing and I don't see many brands offering them.

I have to say my favorite product, shockingly, was the Volumizing Mascara! I loved the fluttery lash look it gave me and it somehow made me look like i had more lashes!

The LuLu Face Company products seem like a very fun and extensive line of products. They even sell their own brushes and tools! Everything from their line seems very high-quality and for a reasonable price as well. They really strive to create good color products but with skincare benefits so I would like to try more products from their line. They even have some skincare products on the website. It seems like a very complete line of products and everything you need from skincare to tools for a complete face! I recommend browsing their website, they have some really interesting and unique products available!
