SUQQU 2020 Holiday Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

| Review | SUQQU 2020 Holiday Eyeshadow Palette

This my first experience ever with SUQQU products and eyeshadows since they aren't an easily accessible brand in the U.S. I have admired the brand and its holiday collections in the past. Being on sale, I couldn't resist trying some pieces from the brand out. Perhaps this will only be the beginning of an obsession. According to Selfridges, this palette is inspired by:

"Inspired by the Japanese expression ‘Ryourakinshu’, which refers to the ornate clothing worn by nobility, SUQQU’s 2020 Holiday eyeshadow palette is all about dressing the eyes in elaborate shades and textures – as if embellishing a fine fabric. Satin colours create a silky radiance, jewel tones dazzle like gemstones and the velvet shades add a lustrous matte finish. Weave them together to create your own fun, festive combos."

The SUQQU 2020 Holiday Eyeshadow Palette retails for $75.00 USD and is available at Selfridges. Keep in mind if you are shipping the product to the US, there is a $30 shipping and customs fee for your entire purchase. The large palette is approximately the size of two quads put together with included little applicators. The palette is housed in a slim and sleek black compact with gold trimming. The palette has a very large mirror, which is wonderful for makeup application.

SHADES

As stated at the beginning of this review, this palette is inspired by ornate clothing worn by nobility. These rich tones and silky textures look extremely luxurious. You can see that the palette is broken up into two quads, a cool-toned one and a warm-toned one. Of course, you don't have to use it in this way but it does make it easier to combine shades together.

FORMULA

This palette has a gel-powder formula, which seems to be something special to this palette and isn't SUQQU's usual eyeshadow formula. This gel-powder formula is becoming ever popular in the beauty industry because of its unique texture and its versatile formula. These eyeshadows can be used dry or wet, without damaging the eyeshadows.

The eyeshadows are all soft, smooth, and blendable. The eyeshadows pick up very easily onto a brush and while soft, aren't a dusty texture. They apply very smoothly and blend out seamlessly on the skin. The pigment is very buildable, starting out on the sheer side but can be built up. I think this sheerer texture makes it very easy to use regardless of your makeup skill level.

When used dry, the eyeshadows vary in pigmentation and how they adhere to the eyes. The eyeshadows apply evenly but what I have noticed is that some of the shades will fade a little bit after application, like the Deep Purple shade. Layering dry eyeshadow is not the solution for more impact but it is better to apply the eyeshadow wet to get more of a true to pan color. This is the only slightly disappointing part of some of these eyeshadows. Ideally, the formula would be rich a true to color when used wet or dry but some eyeshadows are better used with a damp brush.

I do love that these eyeshadows can be used wet or dry. This allows for a lot of versatility and allows you to use some of the eyeshadows as eyeliner. It also allows you to play with the intensity of some of the shades, applying a shade sheer or with the maximum pigment. This is a formula I can really appreciate despite its small downfalls.

THE LOOK

For this look, I decided to get creative and mix a variety of shades for a smokey look. I applied the Soft Orange to the crease, blending up to the brow. Then, I applied the Warm Brown shade into the deeper crease. For the main color, I applied the Deep Purple shade all over the lid, leaving the inner corner bare. Then, I applied the Deep Purple damp to intensify the color on the lid. For the inner corner, I applied the Pink Purple Shade, blending into the Deep Purple. I also applied the Deep Purple and Pink-Purple shade to the lower lashline.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This palette has some lovely shades but the formula is a little lacking for the price. The pigmentation, smoothness, and bendability of these shadows are really nice but the fading pigment is a little disappointing. I don't want to have to use an eyeshadow wet in order to achieve the look from the pan. So, for the price, I can't recommend this palette. I am sure maybe their permanent eyeshadows might be more consistent in quality because I have heard many good things about them. While this palette is good, the luxury price tag is really high. Additionally, since I live in the US and have to pay import fees for this, it makes it even less worthwhile. I would say if you can get this on sale or on some discount, it's a nice palette to own but it definitely isn't a must-have by any means.
