| Review | Em Cosmetics Corselette Sculpting Powder Bronzer

It doesn't take much to sell me on a bronzer but when I first saw this bronzer demoed in a Youtube tutorial a couple months back, I knew I had to have it. The texture appeared so finely milled, soft, and smooth. It appeared to be everything I was looking for in a bronzer. Now, I have my hands on the product and I can't wait to share my thoughts on it. Em Cosmetics is a brand that is constantly innovating and bringing exciting new formulas to the industry. I have yet to be disappointed by the brand and I have high hopes for this latest launch.

The Em Cosmetics Corselette Sculpting Powder Bronzer retails for $36.00 USD and is available at Em Cosmetics. The bronzer is contained in a slim matte black compact with a magnetic closure. The compact is very simple with no frills, just the logo printed on the top and a mirror inside. I don't need luxurious packaging for my products but I do appreciate the magnetic closure, it luxurious and a nice touch.

SHADES

This bronzer currently comes in four shades, which is a pretty decent shade range for a bronzer. Of course, I'd like to see a few more because bronzer shades are not as universal as people hope they will be and having more shades, makes the formula more wearable. Most people prefer a natural looking bronze and the best way to achieve this is to have the right shade for you skin tone. If you are having a hard time choosing a shade. I highly recommend looking at the tone you'd prefer first then go with a lighter shade and layer on more product for a bronzed look, instead of using a darker bronzer.

Medium - I chose the shade medium over the light shade for my light-medium skin tone because of the warmer tone and the color looked like it would show up better on my skin tone. This medium bronze shade has a beautiful tone that adds the perfect amount of warmth to the skin but it is neutral enough to flatter all skin tones. The primarily neutral undertone ensures it doesn't turn orange on the skin but it also isn't so cool and ashy that it looks dirty on the skin. I feel the color is the ideal bronzer color and tone for a medium skin tone.

FORMULA

This powder formula is incredibly soft and light in texture. As soon as you dip your brush into the pan, powder will kick up and disperse, making it a bit of a messy experience. This soft texture can be wasteful because you loose a decent amount of product in the kick up. I recommend using a soft bristled brush since the formula is so soft. You can easily pick up product with a soft bristled brush and it doesn't kick up as much product.

The ultra-fine and soft texture has its benefits and its downfalls. The fine texture means it is very easy to pick up product but you may want to be careful about picking up too much product initially because the formula is quite pigmented. I highly recommend building up the color by applying a little bit a time. While the fine and soft texture blends like a dream and typically applies quite evenly, this formula is only best applied on an already powdered complexion or foundation that has a natural to matte finish. I love a dewy foundation and this type of formula typically doesn't set down and usually has a wet-like texture. This unset foundation texture makes the super fine bronzer cling to the skin, which makes it look uneven and splotchy. You can somewhat blend it out but it still doesn't look as seamless as when it's applied over a set foundation or more matte foundation finish.

The other issue I find with this very fine powder texture is that it clings to any hairs on the skin. I have very very fine peach fuzz on my face and I know most people often do too. I typically use a dermaplaner to shave off this fuzz but I really only do this when I have an occasion coming up. Typically, I don't have an issue with bronzers clinging to the fuzz on my face but this powder is so fine and you get so much of it on your brush, it really clings on the hairs and applies very unevenly. This is a real shame because I really do enjoy the very fine and soft texture. I really only want to use this bronzer when I have my peach fuzz removed.

The fine texture really does look seamless on the skin otherwise. When I look at the pictures of me when I'm wearing this bronzer, it looks so seamless an flawless. It really looks like part of the skin and looks very natural. The lightweight and fine formula blends into the texture of the skin seamlessly. It doesn't look powdery or heavy on the skin. It also lasts very well on the skin, I wore this bronzer for beyond eight hours and it looked flawless long after eight hours!

THE LOOK

If you look closely at the bottom of my cheek you can see that the bronzer looks ever so slightly patchy. This was after some blending and reworking with my foundation. This is what it looks like when applied onto an unset base and with my peach fuzz still on my skin. It doesn't apply as smoothly as I'd like when I have the peach fuzz on my face.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This formula is really good but it's not great because the formula is a little finnicky because I feel they formulated this powder to be too soft and too fine. Although it can look really seamless, natural, and flawless on the skin, that is only true if you don't have peach fuzz, texture, or tackier base on your complexion. This formula works best on specific skin types because of this formula and that doesn't make it a universally flattering. I find that I have to remove the peach fuzz from my face and I I have to apply it on a natural or more matte finish foundation in order for this bronzer to look even and seamless. This is a good formula but it really doesn't work for everyone, which is why I have a hard time recommending it. However, I do enjoy using this formula when my skin is well prepped for it. I also appreciate the long wearing formula especially, for the summer or warmer months. It is a finnicky formula and for the price, it may not be worth it for many people. With so many bronzers available on the market, I would pass on this formula.
